The subject of my creation is a still life photo of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit gum. The setting of the image is just 2 pieces of gum outside of the package and others inside the package, with some higher up than others. The work was made using pencil to outline the initial border and candy drawing. I then used color pencil to color the candy in, making it have a more realistic affect.I chose to create this specific piece of artwork because I love gum and because I wanted to do something that would be easier to put in more places around the paper, rather than just leaving it in one place.
I used balance to put seperate the pack from the 2 pieces.
Some composition rules I used throughout my piece include, low key and high key lighting to make it easier for the shadows to be incorporated. I also used informal balance to off center the gum pack from the pieces. My project evolved by starting out with just having light colors and dull shadows, I however went and enhanced the shadows making them stand out more. I also went back and darkened the pinks on the gum wrappers to make them stand out more as well.
The meaning of this artwork is it’s one of my favorite things and parts of it have escaped. Just like in life how things often get away which you wish didn’t want you can’t help it. This project relates to my life because it is something that happens often. Something you love that completes you goes away and there’s nothing you can do about it. In the future I would make the top half of my gum pack stand out more as it did in real life. I would also work on making every color as dark as I can to make it even more realistic. Lastly I would make my shadows stronger and more real looking.
