The subject of my creation is a seahorse. I created this seahorse using crumpled up newspaper taped together to shape the seahorse, and then using cut out pages from magazines made of all colors and hot glued them onto the seahorse, and then some cut up paint chips and glued them on the tail and nose. I chose to create this piece of artwork because I like seahorses and I thought it would look cool. I used shape with the actual seahorse and forming it. I also used color with the outside of the seahorse. One last thing I used was movement with the paint chips to make it a bit 3D like and show texture.
Composition rules and techniques that I used were soft focus with the flatter magazine pieces and then adding the thicker paint chips that stood out more. I also used grouping by grouping the magazines together and grouping the paint chips together. My project evolved because in the beginning I was going to make a cardinal, it quickly changed to a giraffe and then I decided it looked more like a seahorse so that’s what it is.
The meaning behind this artwork is a seahorse that has different patterns and shapes all around because sometimes things are going to be made of different patterns/shapes. This project relates to my life because I love the ocean and summer and it’s coming up and seahorses remind me of that. One thing I would change is possibly planing where I put the paint chips and the magazines better.
