Wire Scupture

The assignment for this project was to construct an object out of wire. We could chose any object as long as it was to scale with the sculpture we created and I chose a grater because I wanted a fairly simple object to start off.

I did this project by cutting strips of wire and making rectangles with them. The rectangles had to be different sizes because a grater gets smaller in perimeter, the taller it goes. I then cut six pieces of roughly equal length wire and connected the first two rectangles with eight of them and the next two with eight more. I connected all of these things by making a hook at the ends of the wire and hooking the two hooks together with pliers. For the last part, I cut two more pieces of wire that were equal in length and connected them to the top for the handle. I then used less thick wire to wrap the two pieces together.

I did this project because I wanted to actually learn how to construct real objects out of wire. Previously in class, we had made a chain of pieces of wire that had to stand up, but this was the first time I had to create a real object. Now that I am more familiar with wire sculpting, I will be able to improve my wire sculptures in the future.
