Hand Project

For this project, the subject was my hands. These hands are gripping a rope that is connected to the top of a mountain. I created this project using a lot of shading with colored pencil and using a fine-point pen for the designs in my hands and the sun and for outlining most everything in this piece. I also used a marker for the sun and the ropes for a stronger and more visible shade.

I decided to create this project because I thought it would be cool to show a range of distance in this piece. The hands are close, but the summit of the mountain is quite far away and the ropes lead to that distant point. I also put the hands in one corner so the subjects could gradually get farther away across the page. For techniques in this piece, I used selective focus and balance. I outlined and drew the objects that were intended to attract the most focus darker than others. This focused on some things and didn't focus as much on others. I also used a balance in this piece that put focus on both sides of the paper and not just on one section in the middle of the piece.

This project evolved from a plain mountain with hands to a mountain surrounded by stars and a patterned sun and hands. I feel like this evolution improved my piece and I am very happy with my final product.
