Facial Features Drawing

In this piece, the subjects are many mouths, noses and eyes. The assignment was to find different mouths, eyes and noses that are from different angles and of different shapes. I created this work using graphite that varied in hardness. I looked at the pictures that I had cut out from a variety of magazines and varied the value of my sketches based on the value of the cut out pictures. I choose these specific facial features because the were the features that were both the biggest and the most interesting. The eyes I chose had the most value I could see and the noses and mouths varied in color and value as well. I really worked on shading in this piece so that it would have a wide range of value and I also really worked on the realism of the facial features. In this piece I worked on value and grouping.

As previously explained, I really worked on he value of my facial features and I also grouped the features together so it would form a face of sorts. If I had put eyes, noses and mouths all over this piece, I would not have been representation of the way a face is, but because I grouped the features the way they are grouped, this piece could be seen as a face of sorts.

This project evolved from one with not as much shading and value to one with a lot more. I originally was not going to try to match values as well, but I decided it would be a lot cooler if the pictures and my sketches lined up. Overall, I would have liked to have different angles and views of these facial features, but I am happy what I did with the features I had.
