Signature Self Portrait

For this project, I was the subject. The assignment was to draw a self portrait only using your signature to create it. I created this project using graphite, but for the background, which we didn't have to create with our signatures, I used sharpies. I created this piece using varying values and contrast. Because I couldn't really shade due to the fact that it had to be done with signatures, I had to focus a lot on varying the values and creating a contrast between light and dark. I attempted to make the values match the ones in my actual picture and I feel like I did a pretty good job.

I chose to create this certain piece because it was a picture that showed a lot of the features of my face. In the portrait, I really tried to focus in on my face. I created designs in the background but the intention was that face receive most of the focus. I created this focus by making the outside lines of my head quite dark and so a big contrast between the head and the background would be created.

This piece also evolved quite a bit. It started out as a regular portrait with no background, but I decided that a background would enhance the piece so I created a square design with gold. Overall, I am happy I created a background and I am quite satisfied with my final piece.
