Word Graphic

For this assignment, the subject of the piece word the word buoy. The assignment was to create a drawing of the word but have some sort of underlying pattern or connection between the word and objects that are connected to the word. I created this piece using many different color sharpies and a shiny, silver marker for the outline of my objects and letters. I created this work with these patterns because these patterns connected the most to my word. My word was "buoy" and so I made the u look like a buoy. I also put lobsters in the o and y because when I thought about buoys, lobsters were one of the first things that came to my mind.

I created this piece in a way so more and more is happening throughout the word buoy. Nothing is special about the b, but then you have one thing that is different about the u (the buoy), two things that are different in the o (lobster trap and lobster), and three things that are different with the y (three lobsters). I chose to use this because it made the piece more interesting throughout and drew attention to each letter of the word buoy. In this piece, I used sharp focus and I centered my piece for my techniques. The sharp focus was created with the silver marker and I chose to do this because it attracts attention to only the letters, instead of the letters and the boring white space. I chose to to center this piece because nothing else is happening around the word buoy. If I had put objects and a background in my piece, I would have put the word buoy in a different place on the piece so it would not attract all the attention, but because it is the only thing that is happening in the piece, I centered it so it would receive all the attention.

This project evolved from the word buoy with the u made into a buoy, to the word buoy with lobsters and much more happening. I realized that just the u changed would by boring, so I changed three of the four letters to make it more interesting. I am happy with my revisions and happy with my final product overall.
