Post-Election Response

For this creation, the subject was Donald Trump. In this piece, Donald Trump is standing below his many buildings saying "nothing's wrong here" as the buildings pump out gas and smoke into the air. I created this work using markers, colored pencil and pen. I used the markers for the buildings and the birds lying in the street and flying in the sky, the pen for detail throughout the piece and the colored pencils for the shading of the sky and the streets as well as Trump himself.

I created this artwork because it is something that I am passionate about and I want to make my point. Global warming is an issue that I feel some concern over and Trump's ignorance towards it heightens my concern. I arranged this piece so that the word bubble from Trump and Trump himself would be facing the rest of this piece. I did this because I wanted him to be talking to the rest of my work and letting everything know that nothing is wrong, even though he can see that something is wrong for himself. In this piece, I used a high horizon line and sharp focus. I created the buildings up higher so I could make a road for the dead birds to be on and so that I would have space to draw Trump in my piece. The high horizon line also makes it so the buildings are dominant in this piece and this conveys the message of how these dominating and giant buildings aren't good. I used the sharp focus on Trump because him saying nothing is wrong is the main part of this cartoon. I outlined him and made his head very large so he would be noticed because he is such an important part of this piece.

This project evolved from the idea of Trump telling his guards that nothing is wrong, to him telling his city that nothing is wrong while dead birds lie on the ground and one begins to fall from the sky. I feel like this second idea better conveys my message and I am quite happy with my final product.
