Beautiful Oops

This project is the Beautiful Oops. This is when we receive a piece of paper with ink splatters and we can create anything we want on it. The subject for my creation is a seal. The seal is flying over a city and bouncing a ball on his nose. I made this piece using marker, pen and ink. I used markers for the majority of this project and the ink and pen for details. I chose to do this artwork because I believed that the splatters of ink on the paper seemed to form the body of a seal. All I had to do was draw the actual seal around the splatters and I had the main object in my piece.

For this piece, I used many different art techniques. I used a low horizon line and informal balance. My horizon line was at the bottom of the page so it wouldn't attract a huge amount of attention and I used informal balance because I had two main objects in this piece (the seal and the ball). I didn't center either of them so neither of them would draw all the attention.

This project evolved a lot over time. It started as a cormorant but I was unhappy with the way that looked so I flipped the paper over and made a seal. I was then planning on drawing the seal over the ocean but realized it would be really cool to draw the seal over a city landscape instead. Overall, I am quite pleased with this beautiful oops drawing and I hope to do more like it in the future.
