Mainah Sculpture

For this project, the subject of my creation is Herbert, the moose. This project doesn't have a background because I have made one for most of my sculptures and I wanted to change things up. I made the body of the moose out of aluminum foil and then put a brown sculpey surrounding it. I did this for the connecting neck piece and the head. I then cooked them in the oven and used a drill to create holes for the wooden legs and pine cone antlers. I also pulled the pedals off off some pinecones and cut them out to glue them all for the fur on the moose.

I created this specific artwork because I think one of the defining characteristics of Maine are moose and I like to sculpt animals. I also tried to create an overlapping pattern with the pinecone pieces and I think that looked really cool. In this piece, I grouped most of the parts of the sculpture together. I grouped all the pine cone pieces on top of the sculpture and left the wood for only the legs. This was the case because I wanted the sculpture to have many different elements and parts.

My project evolved from the idea of a simple newspaper base with the pine cone pieces surrounding it. I realized that the sculpey would be much cooler and I am happy with the changes I made and with my overall project.
