Inside Out Sculpture

For this project, the assignment was to create a sculpture that consisted of an element inside an outside. I chose to create a soldier with wires in a cavity in his chest as if he was made of metal. I also made a clock as if his time was running out. I also made a desolate background as the setting to keep the theme of death. I used clay in the project for the base and then I used sculpey for rocks and the helmet and clock. I also used paint to paint the body in camouflage and paint the background on the foamboard.

In this project, I used the clay to originally create the chest and then made legs, arms and a head around it and attached them. I did center the soldier at the center of the backdrop just so he would be the focal point of the project. In this project, I used balance. I balanced my soldier at the center of the piece and surrounded him with rocks fairly equal on both sides. I also tried to make the arms and legs doing the same things so he would be equal and balanced.

This project evolved from a basic sculpture, to a painted one with wires and clocks. The clocks and metal really make it look a lot more interesting and I am happy with the way it looks. The painting covers up some mistakes and fits the soldier really well. I am happy with my final product and I think this was a cool project.
