For this project the assignment was to create a sculpture using a material that the person or thing we are creating likes. I chose to create the head of my dog Porro and because he loves to chew on bottle caps and socks, I created his head from socks and for the background, I used the tops of bottles and cut out socks in the shape of bones.
I chose to create this certain sculpture because I love my dog and because he is a dog, he likes many things. This gave me many options for materials to create my sculpture with so this was a plus. I centered the head for this piece because I thought that that would look the best, but for the bottle caps in the background, I varied their sizes and colors and this turned out pretty well. In this piece, I tried to focus mostly on the dog head because it was the main part of the sculpture. The background was interesting but the head was meant to be the main attraction for my piece.
This project evolved from one with a much more bland background to one with many more bottle caps and things going on. After the critique, I was told that my background was pretty bland and boring so I used more bottle caps to cover more of the solid white and to overall liven up the piece. I am very happy with the changes I made and I think this was a pretty successful project for one of my first sculptures.
