For these pieces, the assignment was to create a design that had a message. The messages could be anything from gay rights to animal rights and many other problems with our society today. I chose animal rights, created a design and than put it on a piece of paper. I than transferred the creation onto a linoleum block by applying pressure onto the paper while on top of the linoleum. From there, I carved the subjects of my creation and printed onto pieces of paper.

For my pieces, the settings were winter, summer and anytime because I wanted to show that animal rights should be followed no matter the weather. I created this work using ink. I applied the ink onto the linoleum and than placed my paper on top of it. After printing, I used markers and colored pencils to hand manipulate the pieces and make them more colorful and interesting. I chose to create this artwork because I really care about animals. I centered the tree in the middle of my pieces to show equality on either side for the lion and the eagle. I also placed the animals where they are because I wanted to make it seem like they are watching over us. In this piece, I used a low horizon line so that I would have a lot of space to create my message and I also really focused in on the subjects of my creation.

This project evolved from a tree with animals around it, to the tree with animals, color and many birds and other things going on. I realized that the original idea was kind of boring and so I added the birds and color to show more animals and also just enhance the overall quality of the piece. I am happy with my final product and I am glad I made the changes I did to this piece.
