Candy Burton

BS in Human Services in Youth/Family Services and Administration

Along with maintaining a current 3.96 GPA, Candy often volunteers for nonprofit organizations Blue Star Families and Project Sanctuary. Her current role with Blue Star Families is as a Rosie the Riveter Volunteer, assisting 4th and 5th graders with STEM projects. This 8 week program meets bi-weeky and encourages kids to learn and build on their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Candy also serves as a retreat staff assistant for Project Sanctuary. During their 6 day therapeutic retreats, she assists active military members, veterans and their families with various services to help remove any hurdles and barriers that could distract them from focusing on their therapeutic program. This includes things like assisting with child care, lodging accommodations, classroom and activity setup, as well as other social services during their stay.

Candy says that volunteer work has always been a part of her life, both during her military career and more so now that she is retired. She gets a great sense of satisfaction by serving people and helping those that cannot help themselves. Candy said this is why she is also pursuing a Human Services degree, with a goal of becoming a substance abuse and rehabilitation counselor for veterans down the line.
