How will you know if they are halves? How will you check that your two pieces are the same size?
Pizza Time
I have a pizza that I want to cut into 4 equal slices. How could I cut my pizza? Help your child trace a circle and cut it out, then they can show you by folding or drawing on the paper circle first then using scissors to cut the pizza slices.
How could you check that all of the slices are equal or the same size? If the pieces are not the same size, have another go with a new circle.
What do we call these 4 pieces that are the same size? That’s right, when we share out or divide a whole into four equal pieces, we have quarters.
See if students can count each slice as 1 quarters, 2 quarters, 3 quarters, 4 quarters.
