Weekly Poem - Cloudy Day
Read through the poem each day so you become familiar with it. Here are some activities you can do this week:
Blends are two letters that together make one sound. For example:
f and r make fr
b and l make bl
s and h make sh
Find some blends in the poem, try to find 5 different blends.
For each blend you find, try to think of another word that starts with the same blend. For example,
fl for flight, float
bl for black, bliss
Can you find some rhyming words in the poem? Ask a grown up to help if you are stuck
Start a rhyming word list, copy the words you found in the poem and then see if you can add more words to your list. For example ‘day’ and ‘way’, and then you could add to your list ‘say’ and ‘may’. Or pick a word from the poem and see if you can think of another rhyming word e.g. block - clock - sock
High Frequency Words - if there was a word in this poem that was new to you or you weren’t quite sure how to read it, practice that word. You can make yourself a flash card, or write each letter on a separate pieces of paper so you can build the word like a puzzle, or you could do rainbow writing. For rainbow writing, ask an adult to write the word, e.g. are, in big letters for you - then you write over the word with five different colours. Each time you write a letter, say it out loud.
