I created a short song with my guitar, drums, and voice that displays who I am and who I want to be. It goes along with a slide show of some pictures that I took. This song and the pictures best represent me.

Who Am I?
My name is Zach Myers,
I am a History Major that would like to teach middle school or high school history.
My birthday is on Christmas Day and I was born in 2000. I have lived in Hampton Roads, Virginia my entire life.
I spend a lot of my free time in nature, gardening, or creating music.
Hiking through nature looking for fairies, mushrooms, trees, flowers, animals, etc..
In the summer I grow a diverse and large quantity of flowers, vegetables, and fruits.
I can play almost any instrument you put in my hands and listen to all types of music ranging from the 1920’s to now.
If I were to describe myself, I would describe myself as an old soul.
My passions, hobbies, and family have helped shape who I am today.
My mom has taught kindergarten and 1st grade for over 20 years, she is a big
influence on my desire to become a teacher. The benefits of being a teacher and job security also shape my desire to teach.
Also, my desire to make an impact on our future world drives my passion to be an educator
What I Know
Everyone, including students, are unique in their own way. We all come from different backgrounds and households. The large diversity in the way we all grew up, helps shape who we are, how we feel about things, and how we perceive things. I would encourage my classmates to learn that not everyone obtains knowledge the same way. Different outlooks, projections, and assertations may be necessary to get a point across to certain students. I would encourage my students to believe in themselves and what they are capable of doing, but I would also encourage them to motivate and hold up others around them.
What I Have to Learn
Everything. I have everything to learn. Learning is an ongoing process that never stops.
Classroom management and developing ways to make all students understand is something I need to learn.
To be an effective educator I need to learn the weaknesses of my students. That way I can adapt my teaching style to accomodate where my students struggle. However, I also need to learn my weaknesses and where I struggle as a teacher.
I will challange myself by listening and understanding before I speak the first things that come to my mind.
To reach my students I need to learn how to connect with them.
To become the teacher that I desire to be, I will take guidance from other educators, attend training, learn from my mistakes, always extended my ability to learn, and be adaptive.
The Teacher I Will Become
I want to be a History Teahcer, I want to be more than that, I want to be a leader.
Some of my tenets would be Existentialism mixed with perennialism . I think one of the purposes of school should be preparing students for the real world.
I will be a teacher that helps students realize their own possible potential, within themself. Through experience based learning and student centerd teaching , my students will potentially thrive.
Educating them with effective communicational skills and being able to analyze their environment and the world they live in.
My students will learn the state required material, but also the importance and aplication of the knowledge they learn. Teaching the students the basic critcial knowledge is a given, but teaching them the application of their knowledge in real world scenarios is important.
Preparing them to satify their essential needs, help their physical and mental health, but most of all find their own motivation and passions in life.
My students will potentially value the real in class conversations we have on material, instead of just me telling them infomation.
My students will contribute to the class and have a voice. They will talk among eachoother about the history they have learned, why it is important, and how they feel about it.
The conductor describes me as the teacher. The orchestra desrcibes my students.
If a vistor walked in my classroom they would probably see a diverse selection of posters that are of famous people throughout history.

Hi Zach! I loved the song! I think we all have a lot to learn and I also think that we never stop learning. Although we will be teachers and our students think that we know everything, in reality, we learn something new every day with them. I love history but it was never something that I thought I would be good at teaching. I am excited to work with you this semester. -Dakota Overman
I think in order to be an effective teacher you must be an effective leader. I to would like to help my students realize their own possible potential within themselves. Effective communication is crucial in having a successful class since this can allow students to have a voice, becoming proactive in sharing their thoughts and expressing their desires with ease.
Hey Zach, wanted to say that your page is very creative and filled with information! I also am a history person so I hope we can be buddies and kind of take on this world together in the future. I can also agree with you on the fact that we learn new things everyday especially if we apply ourselves.
Hey Zach, I wanted to thank you for letting us take a look at the type of teacher you want to become along with your background, I am aiming to be a history teacher too and i really enjoyed reading the final sectin and can see myself as having some of the same values and goals, the fact that we as educators have an oppurtunity to impact young adults lives in a positive way is a chance we cannot squander. I also really enjoyer your use of background imagery and how easy to read and well organized it was, hopefully we can talk history sometime soon-JT Turner

Hi Zach! I really enjoyed reading your page! First, it is so cool that your birthday is on Christmas day lol! I also really like your point about learning your students' weaknesses. I never thought about learning their weaknesses, I always put emphasis on building them up and making them strong, but I guess you have to know their weaknesses before you could make them strong. ;)
