Who Am I?
My name is Dylan Sullivan, and I am from Virginia Beach, Virginia. I was born here In Virginia and can happily say I have never moved anywhere else. I am a junior in college, and this is actually only my second semester at Old Dominion University because I transferred from Tidewater Community College. The girl in those pictures up at the top there is my beautiful girlfriend Ryleigh and we have been together for almost a year now. I play a lot of Golf and I am lucky to say I get to spend most of my time out of school working at the golf course and giving lessons/getting lessons. I am a history major and I plan on teaching high school students in the near future. Some of the most interesting topics of history I find are the wars that the world has gone through. Unfortunately, A lot of people had passed from them but the way we honor them is by remembering them and their sacrifices. I have always loved history due to its make up of the world and the past events this world has gone through. Especially living in the state of Virginia, we have seen a lot of history here and some of the first History of America.
The teacher I will become.
My philosophy has always been to listen to others and be there for people when they have a problem. I think the most important things my students will learn from me is that we are all together for one another and I believe that being able to communicate with other classmates is a very big deal. I think it is important for kids to come to school and I just want the students to enjoy it and I believe the reason so many kids drop out or don't finish is that they never had the right guidance or the right teacher. After saying that, my philosophy would be progressivism due to the fact that I want students to be involved with one another and be able to succeed at the same thing. I think it's more rewarding for a student to actually find the answer with the knowledge I was able to share with them.
What I have to learn
The things I must learn to succeed as a teacher are my philosophies and being able to stick to a plan. I know that teachers plan a lot before classes, and they set up a game plan for the day and I don't know how to do that yet. There is a time set for us and there are points we must cover every day so planning is definitely something I need to learn before becoming a teacher. Another thing I need to get better with the technology and being able to use certain sources on the internet. I think technology is the new way of learning and I think everyone needs to know the basics of it.
Questions

I also agree that learning the planning process is gonna be critical towards our development towards becoming who we want to be, overall great page and great job-JT Turner

I really liked the emphasis you drew on being a teacher that will make students want to stay in school. Like you, I think progressivism in education is important, I could see myself implementing this into my style of teaching. I look forward to working with you! - Zach Myers
Hello Dylan!
I enjoyed reading your page! I love history and have considered becoming a history teacher in the past. I agree that students should "want" to go to school and feel comfortable to learn. I think it is interesting too that Virginia is rich history. I agree that communication is a big part in learning about history as learning from others is a big part of fully comprehending the content. You including team work in your history class would be very efficient and beneficial for your future students! -Brie Laurin
