UsynligO. You hear the "punch" tone when you are near the control.
Attackpoint discussions about orienteering apps:
UsynligO vs MapRunF (2020). Both apps beep when you are in the vicinity of the control. The map is a paper map. Results are similar to any orienteering timing program. MapRunF allows upload of tracks from GPS watches afterward. UsynligO is easier to use, and formats are simpler. You can add multiple courses at once and don't need an administrator to upload courses. The noise is nicer, with fewer issues with it not registering a contorl. The in-app map is static but zoomable whereas in MapRunF, control circles are a separate layer that change when you zoom in and sometimes obscure map detail. UsynligO can be nice for beginners because it gives you distance and direction to the control. Starting the course in UsynligO is easier; you manually press start; MapRunF starts when it thinks it's at the start location. Advantages of MapRunF are limiting access to your courses, and manually editing if it didn't register a control. I do see that UsynligO website says can contact them to set up paywall. MapRunG allows use with Garmin watches. MapRun allows line courses and something called "scatter" courses. MapRun does allow you to have your GPS dot on the map, helpful for beginners.
GPS based orienteering training (2020). Can use MapRun without uploading a map. Map is nice for displaying your track on the map during or after the event. Suggestions for placement of the controls; O map might not be accurate enough. Suggested workflow: set up the map. Setter drops pins on the features in Google Earth. Use features identifiable in the satellite imagery. (But can't you also visit the control locations and record the location with GPS and use that?). As of May, could not edit an existing course (better PDF, and so on).

Greg A recommends setting punching radius to at least 25m and min accuracy should be 100m. Cedarcreek says default is 200m, and suggested 35/200. Are these settings on the phone or the course?

Set location services to "always on". Within the app, click on settings and change control radius to 35m; set min accuracy to 200m.
