Generating Custom Animal-O clue sheets

Use "Answer and Clue Sheets for Geometric-O and Symbol-O and Animal-O"

To create clue sheets for a different set of animals, copy the process we used for the Scouts clue sheets, based on the new MC animal courses.

1. Create a new folder in this folder (Programs / Program Materials /v2023 Materials -  Kit Purchases / Custom).

2. Copy the spreadsheet "New Courses for Scouts" from the "2025 Arsenault Scouts" folder and customize it:

   1. In the "NewAnimals" tab:

      1. Change the name of the Series to something appropriate. 

      2. Delete the existing pictures in the Picture column, and use Insert > Image > Insert Image in Cell to add the new pictures.

      3. Change the items in the Name column as appropriate

   2. In the "Courses" tab, Change the name of the Series to match the name you chose in the "NewAnimals" tab. 

   3. In the "Pivot Courses" tab:

      1. Change the name of the Series (cell B2) to the name you chose in the "New Animals" tab. 

      2. Then change the filter in the pivot table to match this name.

3. The following tabs are now ready to be used:

   1. "Streamer Animals" - for printing streamers

   2. "Streamer S/F" - for printing start and finish for streamers

   3. "Pivot Courses" - for a visual summary of the clue sheets.

   4. 5Controls Clue Sheets - for creating 5-control clue sheets

   5. 10Controls Clue Sheets - for creating 10-control clue sheets

4. Generating the slide decks

   1. Make a copy of 5-animal clue sheets from Florida folder. For the clue sheets, use "print screen" from the "clue sheets" tabs. Be sure to center the image on the slide. 

   2. Make a copy of 10-animal clue sheets from Florida folder. Same instructions as for 5-checkpoint clue sheets. For 10-control clue sheets, you need to copy the back as well, because the name of the course changes for each. Alternatively, print 1-sided, and leave that back off -- the course and copyright notice can be included at the bottom of each clue sheet.

   3. Make a copy of Geometric-O - Cubs from this folder. Edit as follows

      1. Slide 1: Change the name of the series.

      2. Slide 4: change the animal pictures

      3. Slides 6-9: change the names of the courses

      4. Slides 10-12: change the pictures

      5. Slide 14: Pull the number-animal correspondence from the spreadsheet

      6. Slide 15: Screenshot from the spreadsheet

5. Generate the PDFs (by downloading a PDF from the slide decks), or print directly from the slide decks.

Generating Symbol-O clue sheets

This was written for CPSD PE in Spring 2023, but can be used as a guideline for other clue sheet generation.

Previous work

Current method:

1. Determine which symbols are in use in the map. Here is a link to pictures of all the maps in one place.

2. Record which symbols are in use at this spreadsheet (tab "Map Features"); assign numbers 31-40 to the best symbols to use for that map.

3. Legend: Create a legend in the Legends google slide deck. Add the numbers 31-40.

4. Add the Symbol-O series (ie, sequence of 31-40 and which features) to the “Animals” tab of the “Original Answer and Clue Sheets for Geometric-O” spreadsheet.

5. Update the pulldown menu of the “Clue-5 All” tab of the “Original Answer and Clue Sheets for Geometric-O” spreadsheet. Include the new Symbol-O series. Check that it works correctly.

6. Copy one of the existing slide decks for Symbol-O from this folder, and name it according to the new Symbol-O series you are creating. Store back in an appropriate place in the same folder.

7. Replace slides 3,5,7,9,11,13 of the Symbol-O slide deck with the correct clue sheets. Obtain the clue sheet image by selecting the series and clue sheet in the “Clue-5 All” tab of the “Answer and Clue Sheets for Geometric-O” spreadsheet. Then take a screenshot with careful borders. Save the screenshot into the same folder.

8. Print on nice paper; 100%; double sided flip on short side.

9. Cut, laminate and trim

10. Put into an envelope labeled with school and Lesson 5 Symbol-O. Also include a printed copy or two of the legend in a map case.
