💛 October 16 | Issue #13 💛
Dear Brown School Family,
With Halloween fast approaching, many students will want to wear costumes on October 31st to school. Please keep in mind our Student Dress Policy to ensure that the costume meets the guidelines for regular school attire. Please avoid toy weapons, masks, excessive fake blood, gore, and full face paint. Avoid any costumes that may attempt to represent a group or population of people/culture, marginalize a group or culture, or focus on stereotypes. Also, avoid costumes that are really scary, because we do have very young students in our building. If you have any questions about the appropriateness of a costume, please ask an assistant principal or counselor!
Love,
Dr. Angela

We are looking for a few parents to join our CTE (Career and Technical Education) Advisory Committee. We meet twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. This committee is vital for our school to receive funding for our CTE Pathway of Computer Programming. To sign-up you must work in a CTE field that is directly related to Career and Technical Education, Computer Science or Computer Programming. If you are interested, please send an email to Drew Paige (andrew.paige@jefferson.kyschools.us). Thanks!
Starting this year, all students (K-12) will have the opportunity to earn points with PBIS Rewards! Teachers will be able to recognize students for their awesome behavior and good choices instantly with points. Students can then spend points in the school store, for events and raffles. It's like their own bank account!Â
We are collecting donations of items for our school store now. Food donations must follow the Smart Snack guidelines. Any donation is greatly appreciated!
Check out this video for more info about PBIS Rewards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZLyt6uPVy8Â Â
If you have any questions, please send an email to Sherri Harris (Sherri.Harris@Jefferson.Kyschools.Us).

Attend and Bring Friends!Â
This is our biggest fundraiser for the school. The money goes to many of our school for family events and many of groups.
Each booth is run by one of our school groups such as sports groups, academic groups, or social groups. They get the money that their booth earns. The PTSA supplies the games, prizes, and the group supplies the volunteers and gets the all the money earned. Â
Volunteer
Sign up for a volunteer shift so everyone can enjoy the night.
Know a student group or group of adults who would like to volunteer - send them the link also or contact the PTSA at the send email link under our logo.
Donate
We are doing a silent auction and a raffle. - donate something to put in it.Â
Here is our donation letter. We will also send out receipts after the Fall Festival for tax purposes and we put those companies or individuals in our Bear Essentials the week after the Festival as a Thank You! Email Julie for more information.
Donate a sweet dessert for our cake walk.
This is a game - and we need desserts to give out as prizes. The PTSA supplies all the rest of the prizes for the games and we will supplement this one also - but if you can donate one - that would be a great help!
Just want to make a monetary donation or become a sponsor. We will highlight all our sponsors again the night of the event and in the newsletter.
Purchase your Bear Bucks in Advance.
We will deliver them in the car rider, walker line, or they can be picked up during school on Thursday the 17th or that Friday the 18th. This will keep the lines down during the festival. All games and raffles take the tickets. Purchase here!
Tickets not used that night can be used to purchase spirit wear or other events like Silent Discos that are planned for later this year for Elementary and High School. Â
The Tunnel Tour will sell tickets in advance and the ticket options will go live tonight at 7:00 pm. Click here to go to the fall festival links and click on Tunnel Tour product.

Mental Health Practitioner
I just wanted to remind parents/guardians of the mental health services that are available to your students.Â
1. We have a quiet space in the Student Support Center. This area is available to all students who need a break to re-center themselves or calm down. All they need to do is ask their teacher to use the space, and they will have up to 15 minutes before needing to speak to a SST member.Â
2. Any member of the SST is able to refer your student or a family member for mental health services in the community through JCPS's partnership with Care Solace. If you would like external mental health services please reach out to me or your counselor to make a referall and walk you through the process.
3. If there are any other mental health concerns, or material/educational concerns that you feel we could help with please fill out a support form, and one of us will reach out to you within 3 school days.
4. It is my hope to get a few groups started soon. I will be sending home permission forms to the students I have chosen for the initial groups. If you are interested in group for you child please reach out and I will see if I can organize a group that would benefit them later this year.
High School Counselor
💃🪩🕺Save the date for the high school dance next Friday, Oct 25th at school! More info will be posted in Google Classrooms soon! 🎶

Thank you to all students that arrived ready for testing last week! We administered 49 ACTs, over 70 PSATs, and almost the entire school has passed their graduation requirement civics exam (only 6 make-up tests left)! ✅

💰Check your emails for an email from Robin. Students without social security numbers on file at school are NOT accumulating KEES money and will not receive dual credit tuition waivers! Robin is emailing all students and their supportive adults that are missing that info. Don't worry, we can correct it, but it is much easier and quicker to fix if it is complete before the end of freshmen year!
***************************************
Seniors, reminder that transcripts are sent through parchment.com and letters of recommendation from Robin are requested in Google Classroom. This way they are processed in order requested and each student is given the time they deserve for the best letters possible. Grades 9-11, complete the student support request form (linked above, in emails from Robin, on QR codes posted around school, and on the school's website, and Google Classrooms) to request No Pass/No Drive papers, transcripts, and letters of rec from Robin <3
Middle School Counselor
The teachers and I have been hard at work providing extra support services to our middle school students. I recenlty started running small group counseling sessions for students who need extra help in self regulating and conflict management. If you would like your child to be involved in small group counseling sessions or have any other concerns, please reach out through the Student Support Request google form. Thanks for all your support!
