Dear Brown School Family,
As we come to the close of another school year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitute for your partnership, support, and trust throughout the year. Together, we've watched out students grow in remarkable ways - academically, socially, and emotionally.
This year has been filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories. From classroom achievements to athletic successes, our students have consistently demonstrated resilience, kindness, and curiosity. These qualities are a testament to the strong home-school connection we are fortunate to have in our school family.
To the families of graduating seniors or those moving off to new adventures, we send you off with pride and best wishes. You will always be a part of our school family. For those returning in the fall, we look forward to welcoming you back, refreshed and ready for a new year of learning.
On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for a wonderful year. Have a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer!
Love,
Dr. Angela
Stay ahead of the summer slide by engaging in some learning fun on our enrichment site.
More activities will be added soon!
Our elementary & middle school students will have access to Lexia & Power Up reading lessons throughout the summer. This is a great program that students can use daily for 15-20 minutes.
Students can access the platform through their Clever account using their JCPS login. Please read the instructions if logging in at home for the first time.
*Please try to access your child's account before 6/2 and reach out to your child's teacher or Lisa Billings for help, if needed. lisa.billings@jefferson.kyschools.us
The school climate committee has created a survey on the student cell phone policy. Per the last board meeting, we need to get stakeholders input on our cell phone policy for the next school year.Â
We need ALL stakeholders to complete this survey, please.
The School Climate Committee and the SBDM Council are working on a revised Personal Telecommunication and Electronic Media Devices Policy. If you have any feedback on this draft, please contact your SBDM rep. You can find your role group rep and contact information HERE.
We are excited to share that the PTSA received notice this week that our school has been awarded a generous grant from Home Depot. This grant provides both funding and the support of Home Depot associate volunteers to bring a meaningful project to life on our campus.
Beginning in early June, Home Depot volunteers will revitalize Peace Park through a full cleanup, the construction of an accessible bridge for students who use wheelchairs, and the installation of a new entry gate lock. All labor and materials will be provided at no cost to the school, thanks to this grant.
When students return in August, they’ll find a refreshed and more inclusive Peace Park—an inspiring space that reflects the values of care, access, and community. We’re deeply grateful to Home Depot for helping us make this vision a reality.
Get Involved: Help Shape Next Year’s PTSA at Brown!
Are you looking for a more active way to support the Brown School community? The PTSA is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make next year smoother and more successful for students, families, and staff. Opportunities are available for both board member roles and chair positions—each offering a unique way to make an impact.
What’s the difference between a Board Member and a Chair?
Board Members are voting members who are required to attend monthly PTSA meetings to ensure quorum and participate in key decisions. Chair positions, while not required to attend board meetings, are always welcome and play an important role in specific program areas. Chairs work closely with the board’s Vice Presidents and help implement activities within their assigned area.
Open Chair Positions:
Program Support:
Reflections Chair – Oversees the Reflections Art Program. Most responsibilities take place at the beginning of the school year and conclude by December.
Coffee with Counselors Chair – Coordinates refreshments for counselor-family meetings and serves as the liaison with Ms. Cordia.
Lunch Events Chair – Assists with setup, hosting, and cleanup for several short lunchtime events throughout the year.
Teacher Appreciation Week Chair – Leads the planning of a weeklong celebration for teachers and staff, including theme selection and family/student engagement.
Fundraising Support:
Merchandise Chair – Manages spirit wear and develops ideas for new designs.
Fall Festival Chair – Organizes one of our largest community events, with support from a volunteer committee.
Additional Support Roles:
Treasurer Chair – Assists the PTSA Treasurer with financial tracking and documentation.
Grant Chair – Promotes teacher grant opportunities, assists with applications, and helps track fall grant disbursements.
Whether you are interested in serving on the board or contributing to a specific event or program, your time and talents are needed and appreciated. Join us in shaping a vibrant and supportive school year ahead!
If you are interested in learning more about any of these opportunities, please complete this Google Form.
Thank you if you already filled this form out. We are excited and looking to put you in your requested positions. We have been making calls this week and will continue next week. We are so excited - but more hands make less work!

Family Resource/Youth Services Center Coordinator
The 8th grade dance was a huge success! I hope all the students had a great time. Looking at the photo booth pictures, it looks like they did. I would like to send a big thank you to Autumn Sharp for helping plan the event. I would also like to send a big thank you to Autumn, Megan McGinn and Susie Lindle for coming to school on their Sunday morning to help decorate. Everything looked great!
Please check the lost and found this week. Next week we will donate whatever has not been claimed.
Just a reminder - the Brown School has a food pantry on-site. If any family is in need of food this summer, please contact me. I will be here most of the summer.
