💛 October 24 | Issue #14 💛
Dear Families,
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the beautiful fall season! I want to take a moment to thank our incredible PTSA and staff for their hard work and dedication in making last Friday’s wonderful Fall Festival a tremendous success! The event was filled with fun, laughter, and community spirit, and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing teamwork and support from all of you. Thank you for helping us create special memories for our students and families.
As we look ahead, I want to remind everyone that report cards for grades K-8 will be ready this Friday. Please note that this year, we’ve transitioned to standards-based grading for grades K-8. You’ll notice a new format designed to give clearer insights into your child’s progress on specific skills and standards. This approach will help you better understand your child’s learning journey.
If you have any questions about the report cards or the new grading system, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the school office. We’re here to support you and ensure a smooth transition.
Thank you again for your continued partnership. We look forward to an exciting rest of the fall season!
Love,
Amy Thornton, K-5 Assistant Principal and Guest Writer
Fireflies and Moonbeams is a long-honored tradition at the J. Graham Brown School. With diligent care, our senior students have been paired with a kindergarten student. The beams from the moon guide fireflies to glow just as our seniors will light the way for our kindergarteners. Our first event is upcoming. See the poster for details.Â

Got a question
for the PTSA?
We are still working on pulling in our numbers and working to get all the raffle and silent auction items to the winners. We can report that $2,014 was raised directly by our school groups who were in charge of the games.Â
Thank you to all the volunteers, staff, students, and community members who came out to volunteer and help make this year a success. The money raised from the fall festival goes back into programing and activities done at the school by the PTSA. We will report final numbers next week but wanted to thank everyone for making sure the 2024 PTSA Fall Festival was a success!!! Â
Thank you to each person who donated to one of the class baskets, secured a donation from a company, or donated a basket or gift certificate for our raffle or silent auction. Here is a slide show of the items we had - Hopefully we didn't miss a picture of any of them!
This November, Kentuckians will vote on whether the state constitution should be changed so that public money can be spent on private school vouchers. If Amendment 2 passes, new spending on unaccountable private schools will inevitably take needed resources away from our public schools. If Kentucky establishes a Florida style voucher program which would mean spending 30% of what the state spends on public schools to support private school vouchers here's what could happen in your public school district:
In other states, approximately 70% of vouchers go to families who already send their kids to private schools. Many private schools raise tuition after voucher laws pass, keeping them out of reach of families who couldn't previously afford them. The average income for a Kentucky family with kids in private schools is $148,400. Under a universal voucher program, they would receive a coupon from the state worth thousands.

The holiday season is often a time of remembrance, and sometimes grief for many people. If you or your family would be interested in any grief support groups or related services, the YMCA and Hosparus are offering ongoing classes over the course of the next few months. You can access information for the YMCA class here, and the Hosparus groups here. Both groups are free to those who wish to participate.
