💛 May 14 | Issue #35 💛
Dear Brown School Family,
This past weekend, I had one of those full-circle moments that really makes you stop and reflect -- my youngest son Caleb graduated from the University of Kentucky. It was a beautiful day, filled with pride and emotion, and I couldn't help but think about how quickly the years have flown by.Â
It truly feels like just yesterday Caleb was walking the halls of Brown School, as an elementary student all the way through high school - just like so many of your children are doing now. Now, here he is, a college graduate, interviewing for engineering jobs and getting ready to start the next chapter of his life.
As a parent, it's hard to put into words how fast it all goes. One day you are packing lunches and helping with homework, and the next, you're moving them into a college dorm or watching them walk across the stage in cap and gown. The days can feel long, but the years are truly short.
As both a parent and an educator, I want to gently remind us all not to take these days for granted. Cherish the early morning car rides, the bedtime stories, the after-school conversations - even the busy mornings and the messy rooms. These everyday moments are the heart of childhood, and they pass far too quickly.
Let's do our best to be present, to soak in the here and now, and to celebrate each step of the journey. Time will keep moving, but we can choose to live fully in each moment.Â
Love,
Dr. Angela
Parents/Guardians:
Review your child's day and time for next week's Chromebook Collection below. Please look everywhere for your child's charger and make sure they bring it in on their collection day. If we do not receive their charger, they will need to purchase one next school year. If your child's Chromebook has sustained multiple physical damages (multiple keys missing, frame/hinge damage, screen damage, etc.); a repair obligation of $31.23 will be issued to the family and that will need to be paid before they can get their Chromebook fully again next school year. Any student not returning to Brown next school year, however, must turn in their Chromebook and charger or there will be an obligation placed on their MySchoolBucks account in the amount of up to $230. Students are only allowed to keep their Chromebooks for the summer if they are taking an E-school class or are attending a summer education program, such as GSP. Their device still needs to be inspected by Mr. Drew or Ms. Anitra before the last day of school. Email Drew if you have any questions. Thanks!

If your 6th-11th grade student is interested in joining the trip, please take a moment to fill out the interest form linked below. Completing the form does not commit you to anything—it simply helps us gauge interest and determine if we can expand the group. The deadline to complete this form is May 9th.Â

Get Involved: Help Shape Next Year’s PTSA at Brown!Â
Are you looking for a more active way to support the Brown School community? The PTSA is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make next year smoother and more successful for students, families, and staff. Opportunities are available for both board member roles and chair positions—each offering a unique way to make an impact.
What’s the difference between a Board Member and a Chair?
Board Members are voting members who are required to attend monthly PTSA meetings to ensure quorum and participate in key decisions. Chair positions, while not required to attend board meetings, are always welcome and play an important role in specific program areas. Chairs work closely with the board’s Vice Presidents and help implement activities within their assigned area.
Open Board Positions:
We are currently looking to fill two Vice President roles:
· Vice President of Membership This board member will lead the membership campaign, including its design, promotion, and reporting membership numbers to the board.
· Vice President of Programs This individual oversees PTSA programming and program chairs, ensuring smooth planning and execution throughout the year.
Open Chair Positions:
Program Support:
· Reflections Chair – Oversees the Reflections Art Program. Most responsibilities take place at the beginning of the school year and conclude by December.
· Coffee with Counselors Chair – Coordinates refreshments for counselor-family meetings and serves as the liaison with Ms. Cordia.
· Thanksgiving Lunch Chair – Plans and coordinates volunteers and desserts for this annual community event.
· Lunch Events Chair – Assists with setup, hosting, and cleanup for several short lunchtime events throughout the year.
· Teacher Appreciation Week Chair – Leads the planning of a weeklong celebration for teachers and staff, including theme selection and family/student engagement.
Fundraising Support:
· Merchandise Chair – Manages spirit wear and develops ideas for new designs
· Fall Festival Chair – Organizes one of our largest community events, with support from a volunteer committee.
· Move-A-Thon Chair – Oversees theme development, t-shirt design, web setup, and event logistics.
Additional Support Roles:
· Communications Chair – Help manage social media platforms. Looking for a Facebook Chair? Let us know!
· Treasurer Chair – Assists the PTSA Treasurer with financial tracking and documentation.
· Grant Chair – Promotes teacher grant opportunities, assists with applications, and helps track fall grant disbursements.
Whether you are interested in serving on the board or contributing to a specific event or program, your time and talents are needed and appreciated. Join us in shaping a vibrant and supportive school year ahead!

Help Needed for 5th and 8th Grade Promotions
At Brown School, it’s a beloved tradition for our lower grade families to provide a special breakfast for 5th and 8th grade students and their families as they transition to middle and high school.
This year, to simplify the process, the PTSA will take the lead on collecting donations, setting up, and serving at both events. We’ll be providing biscuits and gravy and are kindly asking for additional breakfast food donations to complete the menu.
Donations may be dropped off beginning May 20. Please clearly label all items for the PTSA. If your donation requires refrigeration, notify the front office when you drop it off.
We also welcome volunteers to help with set-up, serving, and clean-up. Please sign up here to donate or volunteer.
Prefer to contribute financially? Please click here to donate.Â
Let’s work together to make these milestone moments memorable for our students and families!

High School Counselor
AP testing is still going on and make-ups for excused absences only will be next week. Please remember that the College Board dictates when these tests are held and the school cannot change the date/time of make-ups.
We are almost completely done with KSA testing in the 10th and 11th grade. I would like to thank every student for doing their absolute best and being committed to working hard and being at school daily!
We are working as quickly as possible to check and double check senior obligations and as soon as those are clear, we will start distributing caps and gowns!!!! Graduation practices and senior events are on the school calendar and we need all seniors to be in attendance for these events over the last few days so they don't miss anything important!
Middle School Counselor
I want to personally thank all my darlings for their hard work and dedication to doing their personal best on KSA testing.Â
8th Grade, I am so looking forward to celebrating with you at the 8th grade dance this Friday. Remember this dance is ONLY for Brown School 8th grade students.
