💛 October 9 | Issue #12 💛
Dear Brown School Family,
The results of the 2023-24 Kentucky Skills Assessment (KSA) are in and our students performed well. Our high school was #1 in the state, our middle school was #1 in JCPS, and our elementary school was #5 in JCPS. It was a challenging year with so many new initiatives and curricula. Our teachers and students worked very hard, and I am so proud of our progress!
Love,
Dr. Angela
The deadline to turn in any KIP Survey Consent forms has been extended to Friday, October 11th. All 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade families received a letter in the mail from JCPS about opting in if you would like your student to complete the KIP Survey. If you did not receive this letter, you can find it linked HERE. Then you can print it out, sign it, and have your student turn it in to our School Technology Coordinator, Drew Paige. He will be administering the KIP Survey during the October 14-November 1st window for any 6th, 8th, 10th or 12th grade student that returned a consent form. Please email him (andrew.paige@jefferson.kyschools.us) if you have any questions regarding the KIP Survey.Â

Got a question
for the PTSA?
Do you know someone who would like to have a booth at our event - Have them register here!
Date:Â Friday, October 18th
Starts Time: 5:30 pmÂ
End Time: 9:00 pm
Location: Inside the Brown School, Peace Park, and on 1st Street between Muhammad Ali and Chestnut Streets.
Attend and Bring Friends!Â
This is our biggest fundraiser for the school. The money goes to many of our school for family events and many of groups.
Each booth is run by one of our school groups such as sports groups, academic groups, or social groups. They get the money that their booth earns. The PTSA supplies the games, prizes, and the group supplies the volunteers and gets the all the money earned. Â
Volunteer
Sign up for a volunteer shift so everyone can enjoy the night.
Know a student group or group of adults who would like to volunteer - send them the link also or contact the PTSA at the send email link under our logo.
Donate
We are doing a silent auction and a raffle. - donate something to put in it.Â
Here is our donation letter. We will also send out receipts after the Fall Festival for tax purposes and we put those companies or individuals in our Bear Essentials the week after the Festival as a Thank You! Email Julie for more information.
Donate a sweet dessert for our cake walk.
This is a game - and we need desserts to give out as prizes. The PTSA supplies all the rest of the prizes for the games and we will supplement this one also - but if you can donate one - that would be a great help!
Just want to make a monetary donation or become a sponsor. We will highlight all our sponsors again the night of the event and in the newsletter.
Purchase your Bear Bucks in Advance.
We will deliver them in the car rider, walker line, or they can be picked up during school on Thursday the 17th or that Friday the 18th. This will keep the lines down during the festival. All games and raffles take the tickets. Purchase here!
Tickets not used that night can be used to purchase spirit wear or other events like Silent Discos that are planned for later this year for Elementary and High School. Â
The Tunnel Tour will sell tickets in advance and that will be put in our newsletter next week.
Fall Festival Committee Meeting is tomorrow (Thursday, October 10th) at 3:30 PM in the Concession stand or online here. Â Â Â
We will be doing Fall Festival Work From 3:30 pm until 4:25 - where we will stop and do a quick PTSA meeting in the lobby to include parents picking up students from enrichments. We have to approve the budget in order to do this Fall Festival.  This meeting will be 5 minutes unless there are questions. We will then return to the Fall Festival meeting which will end promptly at 5:00 pm
If you have questions about the budget - please email Autumn. Â
This commercial does have a few of our parents and students in it. Â
High School Athletics
Goodbye and Welcome- Friday, 10/11, will be my (Justin's) last day at the Brown School. It has been an honor to serve our students and families over the past 20 years, 13 as Athletics Director. Brown will always be a special place to me, as I started here in 1988 as a first grader, graduated high school from here in 2000 and came back to coach basketball, teach first grade and finally, took over the athletics program. I would like to welcome Matt Davis as our new Athletics Director. Matt has spent the past several years as our middle school AD, so this transition will be seamless and I am excited about the future of Brown Athletics under his leadership.
I would like to thank all of the parents for your continued support all of these years. I would also like to thank our coaches, who in my opinion, are the best coaches in the State. Most importantly, thank you to the students and student athletes for the impact you have made on me and for making all of these years so special.
Girls Soccer- finished the regular season with a 3-0 win over Mercy last week. On Monday, we started district play and beat Male 5-0, to make it to the district finals tonight, for the 1st time in program history. With that win on Monday, we also made it to the Regional Tournament for the first time in program history. This team has had a tremendous season, winning 14 games thus far, setting a program record for most wins in a season.
Boys Soccer-  ended the regular season during the break, with a 7-0 win over Southern High School. Unfortunately, we had to play the 3rd ranked team in the State for the 1st round of districts and fell short, ending our season. Henry Grieshop-Goodwin ended the regular season leading the State in assists. This team showed tremendous growth all year and had a fantastic year. The future of Brown Soccer is bright!!Â
Volleyball- they will be at Valley tonight (10/9), and our JV team will be at Evangel on Thursday night. On Monday, we will be at home against Shawnee, where we will honor our seniors from our fall sports teams. Come out and cheer them on.Â
Cross Country- High School Cross Country finished strong at the Louisville XC High School Classic and is gearing up for the Haunted Woods Classic.
Golf - Congratulations to Cade Wilson on making the State Final Round. This is the first time in school history that we had a player make the State Finals.

Archery- We have an opening for a Middle School Archery Coach. Previously, Jennifer Pasewalk has managed both Middle School and High School Archery. Her children have graduated, and she is ready to begin passing down the reigns to a new coach. She will keep coaching High School this year but would like a partner to Coach Middle School to lighten her load and possibly take over High School next year. She is an amazing resource and would be available to answer questions. Please let Dr. Kat (kathleen.mattingly@jefferson.kyschools.us) know if you are interested in Middle School Archery.
Middle School Boys Basketball- Â If you are a Parent of one of our players this year, please consider joining our team app to stay updated on schedules and other info by clicking HERE.

House Bill 611 Information:
The Kentucky General Assembly has passed a new law, HB 611, aimed at addressing student attendance. This legislation mandates that students throughout Kentucky who accumulate 15 or more unexcused absences be referred to their local County Attorney's office. The goal of HB 611 is to reduce unexcused absences, promote consistent attendance, and ensure students receive the support they need to stay engaged in school. To read more about HB 611, click here.

Monday I handed out permission forms to a few students for an upcoming social skills group in 1st grade. For those who are not aware, we are able to offer groups for various topics here in school. In order for your student to be able to participate they must return the permission form that is sent home with them. It is my hope to have several groups this year. If you feel that your student would benefit from a specific group feel free to reach out to me with ideas. I am hoping to start a group for grief support in middle school soon. If you would be interested in your child being a part of this group (6-8th grade) please fill out this form.
