💛 February 13 | Issue #25 💛
Dear Brown School Family,
❤️ Happy Valentine's Week! ❤️
I hope your upcoming Valentine's Day is full of love and joy. Take some time this week to intentionally show your student some love.
❤️ One of the best ways to share your love with your student is to tell them that they are important. In this big world, it is easy to feel unnecessary or irrelevant. Every person's life comes with hills and valleys. You don't have to be famous or the best at something to be important.
❤️ It may sound silly, but one of the best ways to tell your student you love them is to tell them you're happy that they were born! Cherish them and tell them that you are lucky that you get to experience life with them. Make sure they know that your life is better with them in it.
❤️ Sometimes people have a hard time believing that they deserve good things. Everyone deserves good things in their life and should be given the opportunity to find happiness. Be sure to share these affirmations with your student and also remember that YOU deserve positive things in your life as well.
❤️ Many of our students struggle with negative thoughts. If this is your student, remind them that they are so much more than their negative thoughts. There are so many things that make them special and unique, and these things outweigh anything negative that may pop in their head.
❤️ Make sure your student knows they are doing a great job! In life, we are all doing the best we can. Sometimes we are on top and sometimes we are on the struggle bus. Tell them that you are proud of them and let them know that you are doing your best, too.
Love,
Dr. Angela

Brown School Parents & Guardians,
The Comprehensive School Survey is administered to students in grades 4-12 each year to provide feedback on all aspects of the school learning environment. We ask that you also take the survey as we use the data to improve our school. You can go to this direct link, HERE. Next, choose your language to take the survey in, and make sure you select that your student attends J. Graham Brown School on the next page. The survey is due February 28th, and we are trying to reach our 85% completion rate goal. Currently, our Parent/Guardian completion rate is 13%, so any time you can provide to complete the survey would be greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, please reach out to Drew Paige (andrew.paige@jefferson.kyschools.us)
Our Budget Committee is hard at work developing the budgets for the 2025-26 school year. The budgets will be reviewed and hopefully approved by our SBDM Council on Thursday, February 20th at their regular meeting. If you have any feedback to share, you are welcome to attend the meeting and sign up to speak during public comment. The budget proposals are linked below.

VALEDICTORIANS!!!!
SENIORS that are eligible to give the Valedictorian address at graduation (4.0+ weighted GPA) have received an assignment in Google Classroom Class of 2025. THIS IS OPTIONAL AND ONLY FOR THOSE THAT WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THE SPEECH. For the sake of planning and printing of the program, this is determined by your Cumulative GPA as of the 7th Semester (Fall 2024). Occasionally a student will cross the threshold with their 8th semester grades and we are happy to have them stand at graduation, but their name will not appear in the pre-printed graduation program and they cannot be considered for the Valedictorian Address.
Testing in March:
Grades 9-10: March 13th all students in grades 9-10 will take the CERT Test. This gives us the ability to identify areas we can support students on their way to College Readiness.
Grade 11: March 13th all 11th graders will take the ACT. This is paid for by the state of Kentucky and is a mandatory test. Every 11th grader has been registered and will receive more info via Norah's Junior Seminar Class.
A selected group of 17 year olds born between 10/1/2007 and 9/30/2008 at Brown has been chosen to participate in NAEP testing to represent the United States. If you (or your child) were born in the window above and you DO NOT want to test, please email Robin.Cash@jefferson.kyschools.us with "Decline NAEP" in the subject line. This test will take place at 8:15 on March 25, 2025 in the cafeteria. Students will be notified in writing two weeks before the test.
