💛 February 5 | Issue #24 💛
Dear Brown School Family,
Excessive screen time can negatively impact a child's development, affecting sleep, physical activity, social skills, and attention span. It's crucial to manage technology use by setting limits, creating screen-free zones, and actively engaging with children during screen time to ensure healthy digital habits are formed. This includes discussing online safety and appropriate content based on age.
Different age groups require different screen time limits, with younger children needing significantly less exposure to screens than older kids.Â
Focus on choosing educational and enriching content when children are on screens.Â
Designate specific times and places in the home where screens are not allowed, like mealtimes and bedtime.Â
Utilize parental controls on devices to monitor screen time, restrict access to inappropriate content, and set time limits.Â
When watching screens together, actively engage with your child, discuss what they are seeing, and ask questions.
The Mayo Clinic has an excellent article about child-appropriate screen time and technology management.
Love,
Dr. Angela

Mental Health Practitioner
As we move full steam into this new semester, I wanted to let all of our parents/guardians know that my services are available for students individually with guardian consent. If you would like me to meet with your student to work on any emotional or behavioral goals while at school, please reach out to me, and I will walk you through my referral process. Please also feel free to put any concerns on our student support form! In addition, I know that during this time of year there are often times where students may have concerns about self-harm or suicidal thoughts. A great resource for this is to call 988 or go to https://988lifeline.org/ .

VALEDICTORIANS!!!!Â
SENIORS that are eligible to give the Valedictorian address at graduation (4.0+ weighted GPA) have received an assignment in Google Classroom Class of 2025. THIS IS OPTIONAL AND ONLY FOR THOSE THAT WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THE SPEECH. For the sake of planning and printing of the program, this is determined by your Cumulative Weighted GPA as of the 7th Semester (Fall 2024). Occasionally a student will cross the threshold with their 8th semester grades and we are happy to have them stand at graduation, but their name will not appear in the pre-printed graduation program and they cannot be considered for the Valedictorian Address.
