💛 May 7 | Issue #34 💛
Dear Brown School Family,
Our students have been working very hard this week on their Kentucky Summative Assessments and Advanced Placement exams. Please continue to ensure your student's Chromebook is charged up each night, your student gets a good breakfast, and your student has a good night's sleep. We appreciate everyone being here on time so that students don't have to make up tests at a later date and miss fun, educational activities we have planned.
We have 12 days of school left! Make every one count!
Love,
Dr. Angela
We are in need of donations for our last PBIS Store of the year! Please click this link or scan the QR code to donate an item. PBIS points can not carryover to the next year so we want students to have a great shopping experience. Â Thanks!
Join us for Pee Wee Prom on Thursday, May 22nd in the Brown School Gymnasium.

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Families from 4:00-6:00pm.
3rd - 5th Grade Families from 5:00-7:00pm.
Food trucks and more will be available.Â
Sneakers or soft-soled shoes are required!
Brown School Families,Â
We will be collecting all Chromebooks and Chargers during the last week of school for the summer. A schedule of what day your child will need to bring their device and charger will be released next week.Â
No one will be allowed to take their Chromebook home for the summer unless an email is sent to the STC, Drew Paige, explaining that the student needs it for a summer program or summer class. Any student participating in the JCPS Journey to Success (Summer Backpack League) will receive a device at their location.Â
Students will be receiving the same device next school year (if they have minimal or no damages) so there is no need for them to remove their stickers.Â
If your child turns in a damaged computer (missing multiple keys, cracked screen, broken frame) or has a missing charger, it may be something the family has to pay for. See the Brown School Device Usage Agreement Linked Here. A repair is paid on MySchoolBucks for $31.23. The STC will send an email/text with a specific link, if this were to happen.Â
We only have about 20 used Chromebook replacement chargers in stock which cost $10. After all of the used chargers are gone, we will only be able to provide new chargers for $25. If your child has lost their charger or it is no longer functioning they can bring in $10 to have one ready for next school year. If you have any questions, please reach out to Drew! Thanks!
Dear Families,
We are excited to announce that we may be able to open up a few additional seats for our upcoming international tour to London, Paris, and Rome in 2026! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience new cultures, build global awareness, and create unforgettable memories.
If your 6th-11th grade student is interested in joining the trip, please take a moment to fill out the interest form linked below. Completing the form does not commit you to anything—it simply helps us gauge interest and determine if we can expand the group. The deadline to complete this form is May 9th.Â

We will follow up with more details once we know how many spots might be available. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to reach out to Dr. Kat (kathleen.mattingly@jefferson.kyschools.us).
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to make this opportunity available to more students!
Help Needed for 5th and 8th Grade Promotions
At Brown School, it’s a beloved tradition for our lower grade families to provide a special breakfast for 5th and 8th grade students and their families as they transition to middle and high school.
This year, to simplify the process, the PTSA will take the lead on collecting donations, setting up, and serving at both events. We’ll be providing biscuits and gravy and are kindly asking for additional breakfast food donations to complete the menu.
Donations may be dropped off beginning May 20. Please clearly label all items for the PTSA. If your donation requires refrigeration, notify the front office when you drop it off.
We also welcome volunteers to help with set-up, serving, and clean-up. Please sign up here to donate or volunteer.
Prefer to contribute financially? Please click here to donate.Â
Let’s work together to make these milestone moments memorable for our students and families!
We are very excited that we had 5 parents who would like to serve on the SBDM Council. I want to thank the following parents who will be on the ballot. There names are in Alphabetically order. Â
Dr. Bonifacio Aleman
Peggy Chavers
Dr. Melanie House
Emily Reder
Ashley Smith
The ballot will be emailed to all eligible parents for voting on Thursday and voting will end on Friday, May 9th at 11:45 pm. Only parents who have students who will be attending Brown next year will get the ballot.Â
Get Involved: Help Shape Next Year’s PTSA at Brown!Â
Are you looking for a more active way to support the Brown School community? The PTSA is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make next year smoother and more successful for students, families, and staff. Opportunities are available for both board member roles and chair positions—each offering a unique way to make an impact.
What’s the difference between a Board Member and a Chair?
Board Members are voting members who are required to attend monthly PTSA meetings to ensure quorum and participate in key decisions. Chair positions, while not required to attend board meetings, are always welcome and play an important role in specific program areas. Chairs work closely with the board’s Vice Presidents and help implement activities within their assigned area.
Open Board Positions:
We are currently looking to fill two Vice President roles:
· Vice President of Membership This board member will lead the membership campaign, including its design, promotion, and reporting membership numbers to the board.
· Vice President of Programs This individual oversees PTSA programming and program chairs, ensuring smooth planning and execution throughout the year.
Open Chair Positions:
Program Support:
· Reflections Chair – Oversees the Reflections Art Program. Most responsibilities take place at the beginning of the school year and conclude by December.
· Coffee with Counselors Chair – Coordinates refreshments for counselor-family meetings and serves as the liaison with Ms. Cordia.
· Thanksgiving Lunch Chair – Plans and coordinates volunteers and desserts for this annual community event.
· Lunch Events Chair – Assists with setup, hosting, and cleanup for several short lunchtime events throughout the year.
· Teacher Appreciation Week Chair – Leads the planning of a weeklong celebration for teachers and staff, including theme selection and family/student engagement.
Fundraising Support:
· Merchandise Chair – Manages spirit wear and develops ideas for new designs
· Fall Festival Chair – Organizes one of our largest community events, with support from a volunteer committee.
· Move-A-Thon Chair – Oversees theme development, t-shirt design, web setup, and event logistics.
Additional Support Roles:
· Communications Chair – Help manage social media platforms. Looking for a Facebook Chair? Let us know!
· Treasurer Chair – Assists the PTSA Treasurer with financial tracking and documentation.
· Grant Chair – Promotes teacher grant opportunities, assists with applications, and helps track fall grant disbursements.
Whether you are interested in serving on the board or contributing to a specific event or program, your time and talents are needed and appreciated. Join us in shaping a vibrant and supportive school year ahead!

Just like we did in the fight against the Voucher Amendment, we're uniting parents, teachers, students, and community members to protect and reimagine the heartbeat of our communities: our public schools.
We’re hitting the road with Our Schools, Our Communities: The Future of Public Education Tour — a 10-city series of powerful, people-driven workshops focused on the future of public education in Kentucky.
Each stop will spotlight real stories and local voices — and give folks the tools to take action. We’ll talk about how to push back against harmful policies coming from Frankfort and Washington, and work together to build a bold, community-centered agenda for Kentucky’s kids.
Because our children deserve the very best — and we’re organizing to deliver just that.
