Project AWARE Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)
Dear JCSS Family,
The Jackson County School System is committed to the social and emotional health of all students. As part of that commitment, the system was approved for the Project AWARE grant during the 2023-24 school year. This grant provides our school system with three full-time employees dedicated to attending to our students’ social and emotional needs.
This grant provides additional screening for students and allows us to provide more advanced resources, if a necessity arises for a student. As part of this screening, our school will be conducting the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) upon our return from fall break.
This screening has been planned since the inception of this grant, and we look forward to being able to implement this as another resource for our students.
The SDQ is a brief behavioral screening questionnaire administered two times during the school year. Students will take the 25 item survey online. Students will self-report on the 25 behavior attributes using a scale of ‘not true’, ‘somewhat true’, or ‘certainly true’.
The behaviors are grouped into 5 scales:
emotional symptoms
conduct problems
hyperactivity/inattention
peer/relationship problems
prosocial behavior
If you do not wish for your child to participate in the screening, a parent or guardian must sign and return the opt-out option to the front office of your student’s school no later than October 4, 2024. Please click HERE to access the form.
For additional questions, please contact Joni Powell, Project AWARE District Coordinator, via email at joni.powell@jcss.us or Sherry Beauchamp, District MTSS Coordinator, via email at sbeauchamp@jcss.us. To view the SDQ, please visit www.sdqinfo.com.
Sincerely,
Joni Powell
