Course overview - Study Period 1
During the first study period: Learners will explore the twin concepts of Law and Crime, studying the causes of crime and the purposes of punishment. They will learn about the history of crime and punishment in the UK, and how the focus has changed over the last thousand years. We will look at some of the more significant modern crimes such as the “War on Drugs”, and gun and knife crime. We will look at more extreme methods of punishment such as corporal and capital punishment, and consider the role of justice, empathy and forgiveness.
