Course overview - Study Period 1, 2 and 3
In the Autumn term, learners will be completing their studies of democracy and dictatorship in Germany from 1890 to 1945. Learners investigate how Hitler destroyed Germany’s democratic system and turned Germany into a police state that would go on to kill over 7 million Jews, communists, homosexuals, gypsies and other ‘enemies of the state’.
Once learners have completed their study of Germany, learners focus on Thematic Studies, Britain: Health and the People. Learners begin their thematic study by examining various different developments of Historical skills by examining developments in medicine. They consider the causes, scale, nature and consequences of short term and long term developments and the impact these changes had on British society. Honywood GCSE Historians will be answering questions on which ancient doctors had the greater impact on medical advancements and the impact war and individuals had on the advancement of medicine.
During this term learners will gain an insight into Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance medicine and health. Key questions that learners will cover for each time period are:
Why has there been progress in the health of the British people?
How and why has the pace and scale of medical development varied at different times?
What impact has medical progress had on people and society?
How and why have different factors been more important than others for individual medical developments?
What is the significance of key individuals or events in the history of medical development?

Assessment Points:
One end of unit assessment per time period. These assessments will typically include a Google Quiz to test learners' understanding of key terms and historical knowledge. There will also be questions that will allow teachers to assess the quality of written communication.
Guidance:
Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and close the gap activities.
