House Captain Greetings

hui Jerone

Hello everyone!

The Year of the Ox is almost upon us and I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all Courtesy House members.

I make resolutions for myself every year. Sometimes I set goals for achieving good assessment grades, controlling my temper when I am angry. I also set a reading goal. Dr. Seuss, a famous writer who published children’s books, once wrote, “The more that you read, temper the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” I like to read books. Reading books can reduce stress and expand my vocabulary. It can enhance my writing skills too!

At this pandemic time, distance does not matter when we have all the warm wishes for one another. Try to connect your loved ones (especially your grandparents) by giving them a phone call. I am sure their hearts are melted by the love behind the greetings from you.

Finally, I look forward to meeting you no matter physically or virtually. Meanwhile please stay healthy, both in body and in spirit. May I wish the A-school community a happy Chinese New Year!

Hello everyone!

How are you doing? I hope everyone is staying well and healthy during this unusual and challenging time due to coronavirus.

It goes without saying, 2020 brought about many changes in our lives. I think it changed us mostly in respect of our daily habits, for example, we need to wear masks when we go out, we carry out online learning through Zoom, we always stay home to protect ourselves, so on and so forth. Therefore, for the new year, it is important for us to make some new goals for ourselves to adapt to the changes.

As a student, I think my duty is to learn well. However, during this period we mostly learn through Zoom and I actually get a bit lost. When we are in Zoom classrooms, teachers are not there beside us to guide us face-to-face. It is essential for us to develop self-control and time management. Therefore, my first new year goal is to practice discipline so as to keep myself on track. Daily tasks I am going to achieve include setting a timetable for myself and following it step by step so that during the coronavirus lockdown my life at home will become more meaningful and also I can be on track.

As a friend, 2020 taught me that we should treasure our friends as it has not been easy to meet up during this difficult time. Many birthday celebrations and festivities were canceled or postponed last year, which made me bored at home and especially missing my friends. I realized how important my friends meant to me. For 2021, I aim to keep close contact with my friends through video calls on FaceTime and instant messaging. This goal can help me and my friends keep in touch so that we will not lose our chances to communicate and build our relationship.

Although 2020 was a tough year, I believe 2021 will be better and we will keep fighting together during this challenging period. I hope all of you will also set goals like me to keep yourself on track and not get lost. With similar goals to achieve together, I believe we can get through this faster!

Lastly, I hope everyone is feeling positive about the new year, and I wish all of you happiness regardless of ups and downs.
