Cultural Exploration

For project based learning to succeed, students should learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. During the P-term, the Grade 1 children are working on different cultures of different countries. Our class has chosen to work on Japan, Mexico, Egypt and India. These four countries are rich in cultural heritage and are of great interests to our children. The children are learning by collecting first-hand data and second-hand data, and presenting their findings with different medium.

Week 1

We began by exploring Hong Kong culture. We notice that food, architecture, clothing and festivals vary vastly among different countries. The children also started to do some research on different cultures and what questions they have in mind after reading the books.

The children are trying out capoeira, the national martial arts of Brazil.

Week 2

We began to make arts and crafts on these different countries, look at us making the headdress of the Pharoah, the sombrero of the mexican gent, and some samosa from the Indian culture.

We also did an interview with Mrs. Pradhan, our beloved English teacher on the Indian culture. We also did an interview with our Japanese teacher, Mrs. Mihoko Horiuchi.
