Flourishing World

Students identified the features of Surrealism, appreciated and discussed the masterpieces from two Surrealist artists, Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte. They were interested in their illogical combination and arrangement of objects in the masterpieces.

Students started their work from the idea and thought of passion, compassion and own character strengths, like creativity, curiosity, leadership, perspective, bravery, perseverance, love, forgiveness etc. They used symbolic images to represent their character strengths and sketched them. Based on those images, students started to further develop their own Surreal artwork. In this task, students have explored the direct expression of the unconscious thoughts to demonstrate their own character strengths.

Students have also learnt the skills of using drawing pens. Moreover, they learnt how to use different kinds of lines to show tone and value on objects. Students enjoyed it a lot when they created surrealistic style artworks and arranged objects illogically.
