Ancient Greek Olympics Board Game
What were the Olympics like in Ancient Greek times?
The Olympic Games were one of four Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece. These took place every two or four years in Olympia or Elis, Delphi, Nemea and Isthmia in southern Greece.
Participants could come from anywhere in the Greek colonies or islands, although you had to be wealthy to afford the expenses of being an athlete, and you also had to be freeborn and few women were allowed to take part.
All of the sporting events were performed nude, and the winners would receive olive or laurel leaf crowns which is where we get the phrase "resting on your laurels". The Ancient Greek Olympic Games became a political and artistic forum as well as being religious and athletic.
