Dear CTEC Stakeholders,
As we move into the final stretch of the school year, we have several important updates and exciting opportunities ahead for our students and staff. This is a busy and meaningful time at CTEC, and we appreciate your continued partnership in supporting our scholars.
First, please note that the 3rd Nine Weeks marking period officially ended on March 13th, and report cards will be distributed soon. Additionally, Monday, March 16th is a Teacher In-Service/Professional Development Day, so students will not attend school that day. When students return, we will begin the 4th Nine Weeks, which includes several high-stakes assessments such as the ACT, LEAP, AP exams, and many of our students will also be testing for their industry-based credentials (IBCs).
This is an important moment in the academic year. It is a time for all of us—students, teachers, families, and community partners—to sharpen our focus and reaffirm our commitment to excellence. As we move forward together, I encourage everyone to embrace our Superintendent’s challenge for this school year: “DARE TO BE GREAT.” When we rise to that challenge, great things happen for our students and our community.
We are proud of the incredible opportunities our students are experiencing—from workforce partnerships and industry competitions to leadership and national-level events. These moments are preparing them for success beyond high school and reinforcing the purpose of career and technical education.
Thank you for your continued support of CTEC and our students. Together, let’s continue to DARE TO BE GREAT.

CTEC is designed to provide comprehensive career and technical education that aligns with regional industry needs, promotes equitable access to career pathways, and enhances both student outcomes and local economic development.
Ochsner Day at CTEC, held on March 9, was an exciting and impactful experience for students exploring careers in healthcare. Students from Capitol High School, Glen Oaks High School, and other district high schools participated in hands-on demonstrations, mini career chats, and interactive learning sessions led by professionals from Ochsner Workforce Development.
The event highlighted the strong partnership between EBR’s Workforce Development Department and CTEC, which works year-round to support the district’s medical programs. Through these programs, students have the opportunity to complete the Medical Assistant course and earn the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential, while also gaining access to additional healthcare pathways.
Through CTEC, students can earn industry-recognized certifications including Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Phlebotomy, along with the opportunity to complete 21 college credit hours toward a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) credential.

Students Explore Maritime Careers Through Workforce Development
High school students from across the East Baton Rouge Parish School System participated in We Work the Waterways on March 11 — a maritime and logistics workforce development experience designed to introduce students to career opportunities within the industry. Students connected directly with professionals from maritime, logistics, and shipping companies and participated in hands-on demonstrations showcasing the skills and technology used in the field.
For many students, this was their first exposure to the maritime industry and an opportunity to learn about the important role it plays in our economy and global supply chains. With our community located along the Mississippi River, experiences like this help students see the many maritime and logistics careers available right in their own backyard. Events like We Work the Waterways support workforce development by helping students explore exciting career pathways and gain insight into careers in the maritime and logistics sectors.
