This past week was filled with hands-on learning and real-world experiences that continue to showcase the incredible work of our students and staff. Our Carpentry students made significant progress on the playhouse for Southdowns Pre-K Center—painting the structure, beginning construction on two wheelchair accessibility ramps, and even starting a mural for the students to enjoy.
Our Nursing Techs had the opportunity to visit Old Jefferson Care Center and Baton Rouge Health Care, applying their skills in real-world settings. On Thursday, we welcomed Glen Oaks Middle School for a field trip, providing them with a firsthand look at the exciting opportunities CTEC offers. Meanwhile, our ProStart students completed three major industry-based tests: ServSafe Manager, Foundations Level 1, and Foundations Level 2—an important step in their career preparation.
Mr. Jeff, our HVAC instructor, took CTEC’s expertise into the community with a demonstration at Capitol Middle School in Mr. Lareco Harrison’s class, promoting the HVAC industry as a pathway for students to excel in both attendance and academics. And, as always, our techs across the center continued engaging in hands-on, real-world projects in their respective fields. Be sure to check out the “Around the Center” tab for photos!
📅 Monday, 2/24 – Mr. Bruce & Mr. Jeff will visit Capitol Middle (Mr. Troy Taylor’s class) to host a support demonstration.
📅 Tuesday, 2/25 – CTEC will host the EBR Schools Foundations Meeting.
📅 Wednesday, 2/26 – CTEC instructors and staff will participate in Mandatory Test Security with Accountability training.
Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Nwafor will visit Park Forest Middle (Mrs. April Jackson’s class) for a School Support Demonstration, reinforcing attendance and academic engagement.
📅 Thursday, 2/27 – Ochsner Day at CTEC – an exciting day for students to connect with healthcare professionals.
Park Medical will visit CTEC for a field trip.
Mr. Nwafor and Mrs. Edwards will represent CTEC at STEM Day at Woodlawn Middle School.
We are proud of the continued engagement, innovation, and excellence displayed across CTEC. Thank you for your support in making these opportunities possible for our students!

"I immigrated to the US from Russia when I was 10 years old. I cannot express the wave of relief and excitement I felt after receiving this award. This scholarship allowed me to pursue an education and career in my chosen field of Marine Systems, transition my mechanic’s skill set to a life at sea, and learn to repair and maintain vessels, keeping them afloat and safe. I was able to do all this without burdening my life with a mountain of student debt."

Congratulations to the cadets who participated in the Leadership Education & Training (LET 2) Board on February 13, 2025, at Scotlandville Magnet High School.
