As we close out another exciting and productive week at CTEC, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible learning experiences our students have engaged in and share what’s ahead.
This week at CTEC, we had the pleasure of hosting the Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Foundation, whose generous Deborah Rochelle Teacher Grant Program helped complete a food trailer for ProStart students' work-based enterprise. Culinary students provided a wonderful lunch for our guests, showcasing their skills and menu items for CTEC's ProStart food trailer usage.
Our Carpentry students made great progress on a playhouse for Southdowns Pre-K Center, Nursing students tested at BRCC, and Sherwood Middle Magnet toured our campus. Additionally, computer programming students explored escape rooms to prepare for a hands-on class project.
Next week, we welcome Tara High for a tour, host YEA BR for an entrepreneurship discussion, and send many of our students to the We Work The Water Ways event for industry insights.
Thank you for your continued support in shaping real-world learning experiences for our students!

For the second consecutive year, 200 students from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) will gain firsthand experience in the maritime industry through the "We Work the Waterways" field trip. Scheduled for February 12 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event will take place at the Water Institute and Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Museum.
Students will engage in interactive tours, hear from industry professionals, and explore the diverse career opportunities within Louisiana’s water economy. This initiative is a key component of EBRPSS’s Workforce Development Program, which connects students with real-world experiences to prepare them for success beyond high school.
“This hands-on experience aligns with our commitment to workforce development and ensures our students are aware of the many opportunities available in Louisiana’s thriving water economy,” said EBR Schools Superintendent LaMont Cole.
