Greetings CTEC Stakeholders,
As we move into the final stretch of December, our campus remains active with meaningful learning experiences and end-of-semester activities. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to finish strong and prepare our scholars for a successful transition into the new year.
We are now one week away from the end of the semester. Please ensure all remaining responsibilities—whether academic, operational, or program-related—are completed with care, accuracy, and timeliness. This is a crucial time for our scholars, and your attention and support make a tremendous difference.
Superintendent Cole has challenged every member of our community to “DARE TO BE GREAT.” As we approach the close of the semester, let us reaffirm our commitment to excellence—through intentional planning, meaningful engagement, and high expectations for ourselves and our students. Greatness is not achieved by chance; it is demonstrated in moments like these, when focus and purpose matter most.
Thank you for all you do to make CTEC a place where students are prepared, supported, and inspired to succeed.

CTEC Celebrates 15 Newly Certified Phlebotomists!
We are proud to announce that Baton Rouge has welcomed 15 new phlebotomists, all trained and certified through the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC). This accomplishment highlights the incredible work being done in our Health Sciences pathways as we continue preparing skilled medical professionals for our region.
These newly certified phlebotomists are now qualified to perform essential clinical tasks such as drawing blood for laboratory tests, transfusions, and life-saving donations. Their achievement not only demonstrates their hard work and dedication but also strengthens the healthcare workforce in our community.
Congratulations to our students and instructors for reaching this important milestone. CTEC continues to lead the way in creating high-quality, career-ready graduates who make a meaningful impact from day one.
Northdale Academy opened its campus to more than 400 students from across the district on Thursday for an immersive, hands-on Agriculture and STEM Showcase—an event that brought leadership, creativity, and real-world learning to life.
Students explored a wide range of interactive stations, including live animal encounters, hydroponics demonstrations, drone technology, nutrition workshops, arts and agriculture exhibits, and Northdale’s impressive student-led FFA and academic booths. Each experience highlighted the innovation, skill, and enthusiasm thriving within Northdale’s programs.
This dynamic showcase not only celebrated STEM and agricultural education but also empowered students to imagine new possibilities for their futures. Northdale Academy continues to shine as a model for engaging, experiential learning across the district.
CTEC is excited to share an outstanding opportunity for middle-grade students across our community—the CEF You Be the Solution Challenge, a free and engaging STEM competition designed for 5th–8th graders.
This team-based challenge (3–4 students per team) invites participants to:
Compete in the Regional Challenge by answering timed STEM questions using provided study materials.
Create an innovative video solution to address a real-world community problem.
Advance to the National Challenge, where combined scores determine top state performers and the five National Finalists who will compete for scholarships.
The Challenge fully supports educators with access to comprehensive resources before, during, and after the competition—including study guides, timelines, recruitment tools, instructional support, performance insights, and video feedback.
Registration opens in October, with Regional Challenges beginning in January.
The challenge cycle is starting now, and educators can join the mailing list by scanning the QR code on the flyer to stay updated.
Designed to make STEM fun, meaningful, and inspiring, the You Be the Solution Challenge helps students develop teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills—while igniting their passion for future STEM careers.
Our Workforce Development Department was proud to participate in the recent Louisiana Jump$tart Coalition gathering, where partners from across the state came together to celebrate a successful year of advancing financial literacy for students. The Coalition extended its gratitude to all participants for contributing to an impactful 2025 and expressed enthusiasm for continued collaboration in the year ahead.
We look forward to strengthening this partnership in 2026 as we work together to empower students with essential financial knowledge and skills.
Each summer, a select group of high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates from across the region step into ExxonMobil Baton Rouge’s state-of-the-art facilities to participate in one of the most competitive and impactful STEM workforce development programs in the state. The ExxonMobil High School Internship Program, now in its fifth year, has expanded from just six interns in 2021 to 36 students in 2025, chosen from a pool of more than 600 applicants.
This isn’t a typical internship—students complete the same onboarding as full-time ExxonMobil employees, receive workplace safety training, and spend seven to eight weeks embedded in departments such as Mechanical, Engineering, Environmental, Laboratory, and Information Technology. Interns gain hands-on experience alongside industry professionals, developing technical skills through activities like installing pumps, shadowing machinists, and exploring systems in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
The program also prioritizes whole-student development, offering weekly professional growth sessions, résumé-building workshops, college tours, and community service experiences with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the United Cajun Navy. Interns learn one of the most valuable lessons early: networking matters. As returning intern and Woodlawn High graduate Reagan Rodgers advises, “Talk to everybody. Build connections that could help you in your future career.”
ExxonMobil’s internship is part of a comprehensive workforce pipeline that engages students from elementary school to college, offering STEM activities, mentorship, educator externships, and even free craft training through the North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative.
By investing deeply in local talent, ExxonMobil is helping prepare a diverse and skilled workforce for the Gulf Coast region—opening doors for future engineers, technicians, and innovators, including many of our own CTEC scholars.
