Welcome to our Asynchronous Open House for the Grizzell/Karrer Team Remote 7. We're happy that you are "here!" We have been working hard for the last 3 months to give the students a positive learning experience during this remote learning. We will strive to build community, engage learners, and communicate regularly. Right out of the chute you will notice some big changes from the spring shut-down compared to this fall, but we do ask for a little grace in this first week or two as the teachers and students adjust to one another and to this new learning structure.
This website will house the weekly updates as well as acting as a one-stop shop for team information, teacher contacts, and helpful resources. Be aware that students and parents will still use Schoology for all classwork (synchronous learning), independent work (asynchronous learning), and assessments.
Teacher pages are housed under the subject headers. Stay tuned! Teachers are working to populate their pages so that you can get to know them and become oreinted to their class.
Thank you for being a part of this Remote Learning Academy! Together, we will make a great team!
Welcome to the 2020 Remote Learning Academy! I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with your child(ren) this semester. As a life long learner, I look forward to learning alongside your student(s). This year marks my 33rd in Dublin. I have been a Gifted Intervention Specialist for the past 21 years.
Please, click the link below to read about me, my teaching credentials and the English Language Arts learning goals for 7th grade.
Reading, writing and word study is what ELA is all about! As an elementary Gifted Intervention Specialist the last 14 years, I worked with 4th and 5th grade students. Seeing the progression of learning from elementary to middle school has been great so far! I'm looking forward to a great year growing students into better readers and writers, all while having fun learning along the way! In the coming weeks, we will:
discuss key ideas and details of literature
explore the craft and structure of literature
read text of varying complexity
write routinely
demonstrate the command of the conventions of English
This year will surely be full of growth (I'm learning right alongside the 7th graders!) and fun!
I am so excited for a new school year, teaching 7th grade science! This is my second year in Dublin. Before that, I was a teacher in Dayton. I have spent the past 6 years teaching math, science, and as a gifted intervention specialist.
I love teaching through inquiry and asking questions.
I try to show students how science affects the world around them, making connections to current events.
Its hard to do hands-on science remotely, but we will check out all kinds of online labs and demonstrations.
We'll start the year learning about waves!
Its going to be a great year!
Although I've been in a middle school working with teachers and kids, I haven't had my own middle school students for 10 years. 😳 As an Instructional Coach, my students have been adults. I've been working closely with Dublin teachers, helping them to...
leverage technology to create powerful learning opportunities for their students,
develop efficiencies for personalized learning and feedback,
and transform their instructional model.
I'm really looking forward to putting into practice with kids the pedagogy I've been coaching! It's going to be a great year for science learning!
Aloha! Welcome to 7th grade history. I am looking forward to being "back in the classroom". This will be a school year like no other and my mantra this year is that we will succeed by showing patience and grace and taking on the attitude of problem solvers.
The teaching of history has changed greatly since many of us were in school. There is less emphasis on the need to memorize names and dates. With the amount of information at students' fingertips, we will be focusing more on thinking like historians. This includes skills such as evaluating both primary and secondary sources, as well as recognizing biases and point of view. In today's world there is no shortage of access to information, the key is to look at that information with a critical eye to determine what may or may not be valid.
Other skills that we will be working to develop this year include building responsibility and the ability to self advocate. To that point, I ask that if your student comes to you with a concern from class, that you encourage them to speak with me first. Learning to address issues with an authority figure is a skill that will serve them throughout life. As a father of two college freshmen and a high school sophomore, I recall the middle school years well. I look forward to watching your student grow and develop as a learner, a more importantly, as a young adult. Here's to a great year!

Our young historians are getting ready to set sail on an epic adventure as we explore Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and the Dark Ages this semester. In addition to our exploration, we will sharpen the skills that historians rely on to be successful: evaluating primary and secondary sources, interpreting bias, and developing an understanding of the difference between perspective and perception. Each week, students will have the opportunity to dig into current events and begin thinking about how what's happening today will be perceived in the future. I am excited to embark on this journey alongside them in our virtual classroom environment - we are all learning new tricks this year!
Before joining the Remote Learning Academy team, I was the Gifted Intervention Specialist at Davis Middle School for 4 years and Wright Elementary for 1. Prior to working in Dublin, I taught 8th grade ELA in North Carolina. I am passionate about connecting the dots between the past and the present and I look forward to sharing my passion with your children!

Welcome to Math 7/8. We are working on getting everyone signed-in to Carnegie Learning and getting some math learning under way. Thanks for the patience as we navigate through these challenges. Since we are a math 7/8 course, there is no student workbook because it is a combination of both 7th and 8th grade and Carnegie doesn't have a combined workbook. However, all the info is online and students will see the same as if they had a workbook.

Welcome to Math 7! We will be using the Carnegie Math Program this year. The students have a math workbook (we just got into these this week) and MATHia is the online component. There are numerous teaching tools I will be using during class in order to be the best math teacher I can be, so I ask for your patience and your child's patience as I jump between tools (some will be digital and some will be physical). We are just getting our feet wet for now, but I can't wait to dive deeper into the math content in the next few weeks! Here is the list of topics we'll cover this year in class:
Module 1: Thinking Proportionally
Module 2: Operating with Signed Numbers
Module 3: Reasoning Algebraically
Module 4: Populations and Probabilities
Module 5: Constructing and Measuring
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Algebra I is off to a fantastic start. Having 7th graders 1st and 2nd periods is a wonderful way to begin each day. We started our first unit on Functions and will continue to build on these concepts over the next couple of weeks.

Welcome to 7th grade Art. My name is Kim Cover and I am the Remote Learning Academy art teacher for Grizzell Middle School. I want to take a moment to introduce myself. I have been teaching in the Dublin City Schools for 25 years. I love to paint, draw and work with found objects in my artwork. I have two adult children, and two dogs. My husband and I enjoy spending time on lake Erie in the summer.
This nine weeks in art your student will participate in creativity challenges and in designing their own artwork. Students will have the opportunity to complete 3 artworks. The students will be working 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional while learning about many new artists. I will post assignments for students in Schoology.
I believe that for all students to be successful we need to work as a team. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions about your child's art education. My hope is that your child will have the absolute best art experience possible and gain new sills and confidence throughout the nine week course.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!
I am so excited to be your student's school counselor in the 7th grade. One of the things that I love most about Karrer is that I get to move up with the grade level each school year. I started with this group of students as 6th graders last year and now we are in 7th grade together.
I am a graduate of the University of Dayton (AYA Social Studies) and Eastern Kentucky University (Masters in School Counseling). This is the start of my 15th year in education. I worked in Kentucky for several years as both a 7th grade Social Studies teacher and School Counselor before moving back to Ohio. This is my 4th year at Karrer Middle School as a School Counselor.
As a school counselor, I am here to support the social, emotional, and academic health and well-being of all students at Karrer Middle School. Counseling services include classroom guidance, small groups, individual counseling, and parent consultation.
