Families chose Remote Learning Academy for lots of different reasons. I suspect that everyone would prefer to be face-to-face learning, yet here we are. I love school. Whether they admit it or not, most kids love school, too. My goal is to re-create a community in our RLA Science class so that they feel that sense of connection, even while remote!
Instill in students a love for science.
Create a classroom that is a safe community where every student feels valued and respected.
Find the sweet spot between challenge and frustration.
Engage students so that parents don’t have as much struggle prompting them.
Provide choices so that students have a voice in their own learning.
Utilize formative data to drive instruction.
Grades represent what students know and are able to do.
Allow students to feel safe so that they’ll take risks and celebrate failure (failing forward) as an opportunity to learn.
Give students ownership in their learning.
Resist the urge to spoon feed everything to students, especially in technology. Provide enough guidance so that expectations are clear and students know how to get started, but give them the opportunity to figure things out for themselves. They will be tech rock stars after this!
Waves - Mechanical energy can be transferred when objects push or pull on each other over a distance. Mechanical and electromagnetic waves transfer energy when they interact with matter. Thermal energy can be transferred through radiation, convection and conduction. An electrical circuit transfers energy from a source to a device.
Heat Transfer - Thermal-energy transfers in the ocean and the atmosphere contribute to the formation of currents, which influence global climate patterns. Energy can be transferred through a variety of ways. Energy can be transformed or transferred but is never lost.
Water Cycle - The hydrologic cycle illustrates the changing states of water as it moves through the lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere. Thermal-energy transfers in the ocean and the atmosphere contribute to the formation of currents, which influence global climate patterns

I found this interesting. At the start of remote learning, I asked students two questions. Their responses are below.
What is one word to describe the spring remote learning?
What is one word to describe the hopes you have for the Remote Learning Academy?
