Top O' the morning (or afternoon) to you, this Saint Patrick's Day week! The students have been working hard this week, but I'm sure they are looking forward to one more week until Spring Break! Hopefully we can all push ourselves to work hard right up until the end! If your child is going to be out next week, please have them speak with their teachers about completing missing work. Thanks in advance!

We continued our study of the poem The Hill We Climb studying the structure using the metaphors of shade and light. Students read The Word Collector and we collected words and phrase of hope. Each student has selected a problem that they wish to impact and we began researching their problems this week.
We continued our study of informative texts and writing this week. Students are more than 3/4 of the way finished with their informative writing (Person of Interest) writing assignment. This assignment is lengthy with much detail, support and standards covered and they have been troopers doing their best the whole time! We have also read many informative articles on current events from Newsela. Additionally, we've continued our study of Greek roots by covering the roots photo/luc/lumin (which means "light") and tom/sec/sect (which means cut; slice). We will have our next Greek roots quiz on Friday, March 26.
I'm SO PROUD of the kids for their amazing work on their Biome Homes! Their design thinking has gotten so much stronger over the course of the year, and is really shining through in this project. Many of you have seen your child working with Legos, cardboard & tape, Minecraft, Tinkercad, and others. CLICK HERE to see a link to the project guidelines and resources. On Monday, your child will be able to share the RLA Biome Homes Site so you can see all of their creations! (The students' resources in the Site are only visible to Dublin Schools.)
We will be having a quiz on Monday over what we've learned about climate and biomes. Students have a folder of study materials that they can use to prepare. They will have one opportunity for a retake that is due before they leave for break.
We are wrapping up wind and ocean currents! We'll take a test on wind and ocean currents Thursday 3/25. We have looked for patterns to explain why ocean currents behave the way they do. This week we will see how these ocean currents affect local climates and cause certain areas to be warmer than they would have been. We've made a lot of fun connections to Disney movies including Moana, Pirates of the Caribbean, and next week, Nemo! We'll take a look at the East Australian Current to see how it affects the climate of Australia.
This week we continued our discussion of the Middle Ages and how the Feudal System worked with each class receiving something they needed and providing something in return. We learned that Medieval jobs could be quite foul and that the medical treatments of the time involved lots of leeches and worms. Be sure to ask your scholar what the process was for getting rid of warts, but only if you have the stomach for it!
Oh, we have fun this week! Learning about Islamic contributions and working in groups to create a presentation to share with the class. Next week, we will finish our presentations and begin to learn about early African civilizations - ask your students about the riches man in the history!
Quiz on Similarity and then move on to Line/Angle Relationships.
