We made it to SPRING BREAK! We have enjoyed these 29 weeks with the kids, but we're all ready for a little time away from remote learning. Our hope for our RLA 7 families is that this time is one of renewal for you all.
In preparation for state testing, students should ensure that their Chomebooks are up-to-date. We did this in Science class together, but you can double check in Settings... About Chrome. Remember that a restart of the Chromebook is necessary to complete updates!
As you know, Ohio State Testing begins after Spring Break. Our testing dates will be April 7-8 (ELA) and April 12-13 (Math). The principals and guidance counselors are hard at work to get ready for those days, and will be in communication with you regarding details. RLA students will be given a light amount of asynchronous work for those 4 testing days for their afternoons.
Our Guidance Counselors are busy with 8th grade scheduling! If you haven't yet returned your 2021-22 Scheduling Sheet (Google Form), please do so a.s.a.p. Let your child's Guidance Counselor know if you have any questions!

Students researched an advocacy topic of their choosing, shared their findings in small groups and after participating in a lesson on better brainstorming collaborated to brainstorm possible solutions for their issues.
In ELA this past week, we've completed our informational writing unit. We are planning on sharing these with our peers when we return from spring break! We've also learned a new Greek root (theo/dei/divin) as in theology, divine, etc. We took a quiz over our last 4 roots and their corresponding vocabulary words on Friday, 3/26. We've also spent some time reading various passages and answering questions in order to prepare for the ELA state test. This has exposed students to different types of questions and encouraged us to think critically.
I have been communicating with students the in order to create some strong habits and finish strong, I am running a little tighter ship! I will support students in getting their assignments submitted in a timely fashion when the work is still related to what we're studying! Assignments that are a few days late will still be accepted with some points deducted, and late assignments turned in after that unit of study has concluded may not be accepted at all. Don't worry... I'm nudging kids to avoid that!
You may have seen your child working in Minecraft or Tinkercad, or maybe even building with cardboard or Legos. You were witnessing their Biome Home Project! The kids did an absolutely amazing job not just in the planning and building of their Biome Home, but also in their design thinking. They did a nice job in their "Show & Tell" when they articulated what features they included in their home to make it best suited for their assigned biome. Check out the Karrer RLA 7 BIOME HOME WEBSITE to see these masterpieces! You child may need to log in so that you can see everything. Student Google accounts are "sandboxed" for the students' safety.
We have finished up our study of wind and ocean currents. Our next unit will begin to dive into biology! We will research biomes and what the most important factors are. We will explore the nitrogen and carbon cycles. Excited to start this new unit after spring break! Have a great break!
This week we looked at Feudalism in Japan and how it was similar and how it differed from the European version. We are finishing the week with a short writing project. Students are picking a current event and making a connection to either another event in history or a personal experience they have had. I have been thoroughly impressed with some of the connections I have heard! The goal is to find examples to prove the adage that although history does not repeat itself, it does rhyme and remind us that we study history to prevent us from repeating mistakes of the past. Have a wonderful and restful break. We will continue on with our study of the Middle Ages when we return.
After Spring Break we will finish our Line/Angle relationship unit.
