Welcome to Grizzell/Karrer Team Remote 7. We're happy that you are "here!"
This website will house the weekly updates as well as acting as a one-stop shop for team information, teacher contacts, and helpful resources. Be aware that students and parents will still use Schoology for all classwork (synchronous learning), independent work (asynchronous learning), and assessments.
Thank you for being a part of this Remote Learning Academy! Together, we will make a great team!
Welcome back! We are excited to get to know and work with your child(ren) this year! Our first week back has been spent learning how and when to access Google Meets and Schoology, reviewing expectations, and developing our classroom culture by getting to know each other. Students have mentioned liking the organization and structure of the Remote Learning Academy,
This quarter's focus for Language Arts is narratives (story telling) for both reading and writing. Next week we will begin our Writing Workshop
Here we are, getting a start on 7th grade! We have already been busily learning about one another, determined Google Meet norms and submitted our first assignment, a Virtual Locker, to Schoology. Our first focus as we start the year will be establishing the Reading and Writing Workshop. We have begun our first class read aloud, Count Me In, and will tie in learned content to this in our discussions, will challenge ourselves to read 40 minutes a day and will soon begin our first writing unit of study, focusing on narrative writing!
It is nice to get this year off of the ground! I am looking forward to setting up our class routines, getting to know each other, and starting our learning. We start our year with the study of waves. This is a great unit to begin with since there are so many ways to experience waves. I look forward to using Gizmos, an online lab simulator, to have students be active in their learning.
We're on the move! We have spent our time learning routines and getting to know each other. Students have practiced using Peardeck, Flipgrid, and Schoology. We discussed screen-free activities to help with stress. We will spend some time reviewing energy transfer from sixth grade, then jump into our first topic: WAVES!
It has been a pleasure to get back into the classroom in front of students (metaphorically speaking, of course). This week began with introductions and becoming comfortable with our new class format. I have been very impressed with the insights students have shared as we have discussed crossing boundaries and what makes events historical.
Our scholars looked at current events and considered which might be considered historical in 25 or 50 years. Needless to say, there are plenty of choices this year! We are doing a map assignment to stretch out our Social Studies muscles and beginning next week, students will be exploring and writing about a 'Boundary Crosser'.
It feels wonderful to be back into a routine with school and to have met our young historians this week! Next week, we will continue to establish class routines, explore our identities, and you will flex your historian muscles with an opportunity to describe an event from your past with precise detail. By the end of the week, we'll be familiar with our Weekly Current Events routine. I'm looking forward to more "DiceBreakers" each day as well!
Welcome to Math 7/8. We are working on getting everyone signed-in to Carnegie Learning and getting some math learning under way. Thanks for the patience as we navigate through these challenges. Since we are a math 7/8 course, there is no student workbook because it is a combination of both 7th and 8th grade and Carnegie doesn't have a combined workbook. However, all the info is online and students will see the same as if they had a workbook.
It has been a great week in math 7! We have spent the week establishing routines and getting to know each other. This week I've given the kids an extra five minutes to get to class, but next week I will be starting class on time. If your child is late or absent, I've posted a video (located in Schoology in the folder of today's date) about what they need to do. We are just getting our feet wet this week by playing a few math games, but we should start the content by Wednesday. The first lesson will be on circles.
Pick up your child's math workbooks at their home school if you haven't already done so from 8-3pm. We will start using them next week!
Was your child late or absent? Check the agenda and watch the daily video in Schoology!

Hey everyone! Make sure to turn in your first assignment by Monday, August 31! Also on Monday, check out the materials in Schoology for our next project that we will discuss as a class on Tuesday, September 1st, in our Google Meet. Remember, we will always meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from here on out. If you have any questions, feel free to email me!
Hello everyone! We had a great first few days in art getting to know each other and talking about empathy. Remember to log into Schoology Monday and read through the slide deck about "Reconnecting with Nature" so you are prepared for our Google meet on Tuesday. Remember we will have Google meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from here on out. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Hello! I have really enjoyed to getting to know the students this week. We did some getting to know you activities, learned a body percussion game called Seven, and we discussed what our 2020 themes songs were. Next week we will focus on how music connects communities by talking about songs that inspire.
We had a great first week working on getting to know one another and our musical interests and goals! The seventh graders worked on a four part Brazilian percussion ensemble (they did a wonderful job!) that we will continue next week, examining the cultural context and connections and its rhythm. We will continue our study of how music connects communities and cultures with songs that inspire.
