One of the highlights for EDP 6th graders is the opportunity to participate in a four week cooking program where they learn basic cooking skills and kitchen safety. Some of the skills the students practiced this year included using a stove, oven, microwave, and griddle safely, reading a recipe, measuring liquid and dry ingredients properly, chopping ingredients, using an electric mixer, piping mousse, cleaning chicken, baking potatoes, cracking eggs, cooking hamburg, testing pasta for doneness, flipping pancakes, setting a table properly, and, most importantly, washing dishes! The program culminates with a three course dinner prepared and served entirely by the students for their families. The evening ends with all of the students receiving a Williams-Sonoma Cookbook For Kids.
