We recently had a long-time EDP teacher, Ms. Sharon, retire, and I was speaking with the students to elicit descriptive words from them about her in order to have a quilt made for her. I asked them to think about their experiences with her, their relationship with her over the years (some of them have known her for 6 years), and to help me make a list of words which they felt described her.
A 5th grade boy asked the group, "What's that word when you know she can walk in your shoes and knows how you feel?" Before I could answer him, another 5th grade boy called out, "Empathetic! The word you're looking for is 'empathetic'!" "Yes, that's it!" was Mark's response. What a testimony to Ms. Sharon!
