Summer 1: Sea and Shore!

Launch day- 16.04.2024
Reception have launched into our new topic Sea and Shore! We will be exploring all creatures and environments in and around water, such as rivers, ponds, the arctic and the ocean.
Children have started by sharing their Sea and Shore projects, exploring our Under the Sea role play areas and creating their own sea creatures using paper plates and crafts!
Spring 2: Growth and Growing

Our topic this half term is ‘Growth and Growing’. We are exploring our new role play areas that have been turned into castles, based on the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We are going to plant our own bean seeds and observe them growing!
Spring 1: Transport and Travel

Launch day- 10.01.24
Reception are so excited to launch into our new topic of Transport and Travel! Children explored different kinds of vehicles and vehicles with a purpose. We started creating new role play areas, a police station, a fire station and a space station! These will develop our communication and language around these special places and their vehicles. We artistically explored how wheels move by using paint. We shared our amazing home projects which was great to share our experiences and knowledge with our peers.
Autumn 2 : Celebrations and Festivals

Launch day- 30.10.23
Reception are learning about Celebrations and Festivals this term. We shared our project work, which included artefacts and crafts such as paintings of Christmas trees and mosques. We also enjoyed exploring how we all celebrate special times in different ways.
Some of our favourite activities were creating firework paintings for Bonfire Night and making our own mehndi designs for Diwali. We can’t wait to make Diva Lamps next!

Stay and Play- 7.09.23
Reception have had exciting Stay and Play sessions in our new classrooms! Families were invited to picnic in our Forest School then each class explored their room. It was a wonderful experience to reconnect with families after summer and for each class to get to know their friends more. We celebrated our individuality by creating paper plates of ourselves, which will launch into our Autumn 1 topic: All About Me. We look forward to this first term and beginning the journey of Reception together!
Summer 2: Dinosaurs! Roar!

Launch day- 5.06.23
Reception have started our new topic Dinosaurs! Roar! Children brought in their home projects to share, it was great to find out what our peers already knew about dinosaurs. We explored a dinosaur small world which children imagined their own dinosaur games. Children wrote dinosaur facts or stories using new dinosaur writing frames. Then every child was able to make fossils or bones using salt dough! We will use these in our role play area to explore as dinosaur scientists or our new word 'paleontologist'. Children got creative using craft materials to make their own dinosaur art. We had a roarsome day

Spring 2: Growth and Growing

Launch day- 20.02.23
For our new topic Growth and Growing, Reception read Jack and the Beanstalk. Children were able to explore this story and our new topic through free flow activities. We wrote ideas about Jack and the Beanstalk on the writing table, we created our own beanstalks using our fine motor skills by threading leaves on to pipe cleaners and more! Children then all planted their own magic beans! We will watch our bean plants grow during this spring term. We can't wait to learn more about spring time and growth including life cycles of humans and animals.
Spring 1: Fabulous Food

Launch day- 4.01.23
Created for our new topic, Fabulous Food, the children enjoyed exploring their new role play area: the Pizzeria! They were able to design and create their own pizzas and act out their experiences. They also shared their project work and started to ask questions about where food comes from. The children are so excited to learn more, in particular about how ice-cream is made!
