PE Curriculum Intent

At Noel Park we provide children with opportunities to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure their physical and mental wellbeing. We ensure children understand the importance of physical and mental fitness in the development of a healthy lifestyle, both now and in the future.

Sequencing and Progression

Units in the whole school curriculum map are organised so that they build on prior learning. There is long term and medium term planning in place to ensure a progression of skills across the school. Children will be continuously developing a set of skills, both individually and within teams, that will enable them to live a healthy, remarkable lifestyle.

How is PE taught at Noel Park?

PE in Early Years

In the Early Years, children have opportunities to be physically active in their environment through play. They have regular access to appropriate outdoor space, including our dedicated Forest School area, where they are able to practise movement skills and have access to sporting equipment such as balls, rackets and trikes. This ensures that they have the opportunity to engage in daily sporting activities. From nursery onwards, children have a weekly PE session where they are able to engage in activities such as throwing and catching and travelling in a range of different movements. These gross and fine motor skills are vital for their development to enable them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives.

PE in Key Stage 1 & 2

From Years 1 to 6, children have a weekly hour long PE lesson and an additional half hour HiiT session. Within each half termly unit, which include gymnastics, dance, invasive games, striking and fielding, athletics and swimming, there is a significant focus on key concepts such as core strength, throwing and catching and multi-skills.
