20 people were killed and some injured in the Philippines from a bomb at the Jolo church. The group behind this attack was a group called the Jihadists. Local officials say the time of the attack was at 8:45am. There was also a second blast shortly after the first blast in front of the church’s doorstep. The church was badly damaged and many soldiers were around and in the broken up, destroyed church. There wasn’t many parts of the church still remaining. There was only a couple walls still upright and some pictures up on the wall. There were broken pieces of the church everywhere, including wood, seats and stone. Many pieces were dangling from the tops of the walls and people could have been hurt.

Most victims from the attack were civilians. The soldiers called this a “dastardly act”. At least 81 people have been wounded including 14 soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and 2 national police officers. The second blast was targeted to the nearby soldiers to help the hurt victims from the first explosion. A person was not found suspicious of the blast from the bombs. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for that suicide attack. When asked about how she felt about the attack, she said, “I think it’s very tragic” -Carmen Tan.
