San Francisco’s Homeless Problem
By: Alan Huang
If you were ever a tourist in another country or state you may see less homeless people than where you are living now, San Francisco. Neighborhoods in San Francisco such as “The Tenderloin” has large amounts of homeless people living there. Homelessness is a big problem is San Francisco because they are filling neighborhoods up with people living in the streets other than living in a home.
If everything in San Francisco was not so expensive there will be fewer homeless people. If you were a minimum wage worker in San Francisco you will have to work about 4 full time jobs just to rent a two bedroom apartment! Adonis Li says, “Hearing that it takes 4 full time jobs just to rent an apartment makes me feel more grateful that I am able to have my own house to live in with 6 bedrooms.” People have counted about 7500 homeless people in San Francisco. Most people tend to become homeless because they lose their homes due to not being able to pay rent, no job, housing process is too difficult, and no money for moving cost.
But on the bright side there are people helping a homeless people everyday. When you see a homeless on the streets you might think they wow they need some clothing, but a former homeless person says when you are homeless you care more about someone giving you motivation that makes you feel better than someone giving you clothing etc. This is advice if you ever wanted to help a homeless person out.
